What cringey acting
11 May 2023
Read the book and loved it. Was so excited to see the book adaption into a movie.

The look of the characters met the description of what I had pictured when reading.

HOWEVER, the acting was so distracting - just so beyond cringey and not relatable. Surprised that Simu Lui would add this to his movie build after the success of Shang-Chi.

The overall production felt so budget and rushed. The scene/story transitions feel haphazard and not seamless.

Watched about 40 mins of the movie and then I just couldn't continue anymore.

None of the actors captured the heartbreak or joy of the scenarios that was being told. Awful movie.

Loved it all!
11 May 2023
I loved this series. Fell into it almost immediately and stayed into throughout.

Loved the cast and their acting abilities. It was such a pleasure to watch them and they really captured the emotions nicely.

Loved the main characters and their complexities - how each of their personal stories (past, present and future) added to their responsibilities and mis-behaviours. I found this series relatable but also shocking at times. It was entertaining and throughout the show, I was routing for both main characters whilst also disapproving of their actions. I love this kind of series - one that is so enjoyable to watch (with good acting!) but one that also hits a deeper sentiment in yourself. Loved it!

Also, so happy to see Netflix putting out a good quality production!

The most annoying daughter
8 May 2023
The low rating is mainly based on the poor acting and really irritating behaviour and personality of the daughter.

What an ungrateful and overly bitter child. Does her father - who (before he disappeared) gave her as much of a normal and stable life as possible, not teach her manners? Does the mystery in her past and her traumas give her the right to be an absolute brat to every single person she meets?

It's just awful to watch her.

Happy to see a book being adapted into a series. But the casting and acting direction should be better guided so that viewers can fall into the story a bit more and support this production.

The acting of the daughter is just too distracting. The moment I get into a scene and start to be interested, the daughter and her bad acting take me out again and it's frustrating.
