The Loud House: Candy Crushed/Master of Delusion (2023)
lola wins again!
The first 10/10 in a long time. Candy Crushed is the first 10/10 since dark and stormy night and is a real light shedder on the past few mediocre seasons. Best of the loud girls, check. Sweet plot? Check. Lola being a rebel? Check. Nothing says don't mess with me
like getting sprayed with a garden hose!
How is the plot? Lola wants to give up candy but she is surrounded by it, she wants to go cold turkey but is always surrounded by candy eaters. She goes to a school trip to a candy factory, gets out alive and escapes her candy obsession for good.
Massive points for the musical note, really good song and it fits so well with the willy wonka of the.loud house sing ing it throughout the trip
amazing episode, amazing plot, amazing song, best girl. Now i wonder when the next 10/10 will be?
Brandy & Mr. Whiskers: Con Hare (2006)
Karma Geckomeleon
Where to start... A heist ep with brutal revenge? Sign me up! A cute dog and brainless rabbit and drunk otter crew? Double win!
This episode grew on me so much, especially because of that amazing heist ending.
Gaspar being the conman he is easily reels in Whiskers like a pirahna. Just give me more antagonists like this, rather than just generic "take over the world" idiots.
So whiskers teams up with a drunk otter and comes up with a plan to steal his poster back. The failed attempts are everything about Brandy and Mr Whiskers being the god of all shows, get off the stage everyone else, this is comedy!
Since Brandy is the best she obviously bails the boys out of metaphorical jail, plans a big heist and busts the poster out of Gaspar's jail. It's amazing how a minute can make an episode number 4.
Best trio ep too because come on, slippery beer wins everything.
Since my brain is on fire just thinking of what to say this is easily a 10/10.
Brandy & Mr. Whiskers: Dog Play Afternoon (2006)
Karma will haunt you
Starting off, Dog Play Afternoon is a great example of the theater episodes cartoons tend to have (think a better version of Drama Queen from DC Super Hero Girls for example). It uses the "don't sabotage things behind others backs" moral and nails it by how the plot plays out, it affected both Brandy and Whiskers and left a mark on why sabotage is bad
Margo gets the lead role by putting fizz in Brandy's drink so she burps in front of the judges, causing her to lose the lead already can paint Margo as the bad guy. She is already a super unlikable character and this makes me hate her even more (it's a good thing). You really do feel sorry for Brandy because she didn't do anything.
Gaspar really hits bullseye on "shady conman" like always. I love his character style, the French accent, the stripes and the little mustache, really makes a good antagonst for the show. He tells Brandy he can get her the lead if he also gets him the other lead, she accepts. Conman victory again.
A problem with this plot though, aside from Gaspar turning her red, Margo pretty much got away with giving Brandy the fizz. Nobody ever confronted her or anything for it, she just straight up disappears from the episode after Brandy disproves her.
Whiskers being the male lead, makes Brandy regret her decision, but Gaspar blackmails her with telling everyone that Margo (rightfully) got juiced. She finds out Whiskers is the lead and she regrets working with Gaspar, but "a deal is a deal"
So Brandy does it, Whiskers ended up being injured from a falling tree branch that Brandy set up. What goes around comes around. This is why i like this plot, Brandy got what she deserved for playing dirty, out of guilt she bails from the audition.
This is where the episode's moral hits. Sabotage never works. Different way than usual too since Brandy resigned rather than get kicked out. Good character development on her part, shows that she has the heart to not go through with throwing her best friend under the bus.
10/10, the only nitpick is Margo disappearing but other than that its great.
The ZhuZhus: Weathering Heights/The Trashing of Zhuper Girl (2017)
Taking out the trash
Not sure what to say about Weathering Heights, a storm barges through causing everyone to freak out, mass buy things and stock in the basement.
So why does chunk think it's gonna rain lava? Doesn't even make sense in a show like this. Also Chunk, bags of rice will melt in lava, learn science from your buddy squiggles.
Also, they somehow managed to dig into concrete.. WITH A SHOVEL... IN CONCRETE... WITH A SHOVEL!!! The dudes who made this couldn't bother to animate a jackhammer at least??
Anyway, minor points don't dictate the episode. The overall issue, everyone is an idiot in this ep. A storm knocking out power isn't the end of the world. Way too much overreaction even for the norms of ZhuZhus, that skyscraper emergency kit was just useless
4/10, somehow not the worst but really.. improve please.
Now onto Trashing, now unlike Weathering, this one is my second favorite, right behind Zhurassic Park. Zhuper Girl literally annihilates Madge after she tries to sabotage the park by dumping trash everywhere, but of course it also has problems.
First off, Madge's disguise. To put bluntly:
YOU ARE NOT FOOLING ANYBODY WITH THAT EXPLOSIVE BLUE PONYTAIL AND CORNER STORE CARDBOARD BANDANA.
If Madge's hair was at least blonded or something that makes her look like Frankie it would have at least given a good booster to the believability, at this rate though, it makes everyone look like colorblind idiots.
Other than that, it's pretty good how she got thrown in a bin like the trash heap she is herself, EAT ON THAT YOU MARGE SIMPSON REJECT!!
6/10. Surprisingly cool for a ZhuZhu Pets ep.
DC Super Hero Girls: #BirdAndTheBee (2020)
The mace is mightier than the sickle
Starting off: Karen not wanting to team with Carter doesnt make sense, it was never stated. A simple "why" to Diana could have heavily added context to the plot.
Majority of the episode is ok. You have Karen helping Carter find love, and while including an epic mace vs sickle air fight, something just ruins it all.
The ending. Hath Set being the reason Carter couldn't live with his love, caused him to not show up at all. While this might make sense so nobody does get killed by Hath, it could have been done in any other way (ie: Hath vs the girls. Even said by Karen) Just seems pretty bittersweet for a plot with an easier resolvable ending possibility.
Other than that, its decent. 5/10.
DC Super Hero Girls: #SuperWonderBatBeeZeeLanternMobile (2021)
Car Crushed
Ok... where to start?
Even for a somewhat-enjoyable-but-not-the-best show, this episode is weak.
It has its moments, how the girls stopped a robber's car by launching a net, however that part is utterly ruined by one thing:
The girls arguing over who drives... literally 80% of thsi episode is just arguing (a few good one liners but nothing noteworthy)
Might be just me, but unlike other episodes of this show (Super Hero Boys arguments for example) , it wasn't very thrilling.
The car gets trashed and burned to ash, the girls realize the car made them argue non stop, they agree to just not NOT argue. Episode over.
Shame, this episode could have been higher if the arguing to crimefighting ratio was higher.
3/10, I'm disappointed on the lost potential.
DC Super Hero Girls: #SmallVictories (2021)
TINY POWER!!!
For starters, the beginning of this episode: Diana not knowing how to use a phone, causing her to take an ugly selfie then going full samurai on it is just downright hilarious. One of the reasons she's the best of the 5 girls.
The plot is ok... it's not amazing or anything but it's not horrible. The machine malfunctioning causing Karen to shrink instead of grow, while not super creative, is a good plot driver.
Moving down the line, Diana's tech illiteracy causes delays as she runs to get the key drive with an almost dead battery on the headset, which causes Karen to keep shrinking down to microscopic. The microscopic world's art style is very colorful and trippy which i love. It's also funny how Karen yells EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE when running away from an amoeba which causes diana to get an E drive rather than the required F drive.
Diana having gotten the wrong drive (and bartering her sword for it, i liked how Hacker Helen was so smug about taking her sword) didn't fit, this is where she tells Karen that Diana fought her way with technology, so Karen has to fight her way without technology, so the amoeba got to eat abacus for lunch.
Then Karen says the code, which should have just been said in the first place instead of running to get a key drive, the code? 123. Literally why go through all the trouble if its just the first 3 numbers of the number alphabet? If the code was a 4 digit random number and Karen forgot it would make more sense than just 123.
Aside from that, the episode is nothing too shabby, 7/10, Karen and Diana are the best 2 of the 5 super girls anyway.
