Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (2020)
Pleasantly surprised
I tripped on to this show because it was in a time slot between two of my fave shows. In times of such negativity, it is a fresh take on the spaces between us. I really like the wide variety of former hits on the playlist.
A Dog's Way Home (2019)
Heart Tugging Story With Lovely Cimematography
I was very pleasantly surprised by the long journey of a stray dog. The cinematography of mountains in winter was especially splendid.

The Saint (1962)
The Saint Rediscovered
I loved watching The Saint in the 1960s. For a girl in Northern Ontario Canada, the sights of Europe, the clothes, the intrigue, the mystery and adventure of The Saint was my window on the world. Now that I found The Saint on Popcornflix, the excellent HD black and white quality shows well on HD TVs.
Roger Moore IS The Saint; likely even more than the Novelist's vision. Sets are pure mid-century modern at their most elegant. Now that I've seen Jackie Chan's movies, the regular fight scenes don't meet 21st century standards, but, who cares?
This is 60's British TV at its best.
Whiskey Cavalier (2019)
Fast Paced Fun
Whiskey Cavalier shows good nods to vintage TV spy series. Gadgets, explosion, car chases, just in time rescues, lots of bullets and banter..Oh my!. It combines two of the 7 Basic Plots, combining a Quest with weekly capers to Overcome a Monster.
The many world destinations are a nod to 60's shows like The Saint and Man/Girl from UNCLE.
Bravo! I am so sick of toe tags on TV.
Private Eyes (2016)
A Visual Love Song for Toronto
I missed this until 2018, when a friend let me know about an episode filmed in my neighbourhood. I watched and I have been bingeing since. The cinematography is awesome, especially the night aerial shots. It is very Canadian and believably Torontonian. The great chemistry between Jason Priestly's lost former NHL hockey player and the cop's daughter trying to make it in a city with a low crime rate shows up often.
...and no more dead bodies at the morgue. Schwing!
Take Two (2018)
I'm surprised how much I enjoy this
If you want deep meaning go elsewhere, but if you want a will they/ won't they private eye show, this is right up there with Private Eyes. It reminds me of Remington Steele in the reverse; a struggling agency takes on a media darling to up the client base.
It is like cotton candy on a summer evening. Just enjoy it.
