Last Summer (1969)
Has no one else noticed the obvious influence Bergman's Persona has on this film
In the theater, when they have their first polyamorous experience, I believe they are watching Persona and there are many images and plot points that very much seem to point to Persona being a heavy influence on this film. It's obviously not the same psychological drama, but this film feels as if it is very informed by the sexual experiences in Persona. These are some disturbed and disturbing teenagers. It's a difficult one to watch but it will hang with you and it raises some interesting subjects. Those calling it 70's trash obviously didn't see the film I saw.
It's a powerful film and it is well-acted. It's also interesting to see a very young Barbra Hershey, Bruce Davison and Richard Thomas. I can't say that I necessarily enjoyed it, but it did kind of kick me in the brain.
The Book of Henry (2017)
One of the worst films I've ever seen
The story makes no sense, the plot has holes you could drive a truck through and even Naomi Watts is not very likeable in this.
Letterkenny: Hard Right Jay (2018)
Best Episode of a Legendary Show
Takedown of the white supremacist clowns ferda! Jay Baruchel is hilarious as Hard Right Jay and the consolidated message delivered straight to the forehead of the alt-right is deeply satisfying.
Star Trek Beyond (2016)
A Star Trek film for non-Trekkies
The last thing I wanted was a soulless Fast and Furious Star Trek film. Filled with plot holes and jammed with CGI, this film never gets off the ground. This feels nothing like a Star Trek film and fails miserably because of it. I didn't care about the villain and, by the end of this train wreck, I didn't care about the crew anymore either. Boring and predictable, Beyond goes where none have gone before, straight to chases, explosions and shootouts. Die hard Trek fans who are being honest with themselves will find little resembling the beloved series we all spent so much time enjoying.
The Greg Gutfeld Show (2015)
Quite possibly the least funny thing I've ever seen
How and why is this dude employed. This is actually dumber than the Five. It's like an even more worthless pretend version of the view made for local Canadian free cable tv. We may have hit a cultural nadir in 2019.
