Succession: What It Takes (2021)
Obvious change in writing for the worse
Clear change in writers compared with earlier seasons/episodes.
This episode serves as a microcosm for what's wrong with a great many shows and movies in the modern era: writers who apparently have more experience on Twitter than they do in the real world.
Characters are reduced to one-dimensional caricatures of themselves. Pretentious politically charged dialogue that serves as a heavy-handed allegory for modern politics. Characters being used as a direct mouthpiece for the writer's own political views (Shivan). All of this sums up to interactions between characters that don't feel believable nor are they engaging.
K.G.F: Chapter 1 (2018)
Visually impressive but a narrative mess
Super high effort cinematography. Impressive visuals with an insane number of shots. When a character describes something that happened in the past there is a separate shot which visualizes each spoken sentence. The amount of work that must have gone into this is staggering.
While the production is high effort, the English translation is anything but. The first half of the movie is a narrative mess, and this is greatly exacerbated by a weak translation. The result is that it's often unclear who the villain is or why we should care. The translation is also marred by typos and awkward phrases. This movie could have been a 7 or maybe even an 8 with an excellent translation.
