True classic of the Genre
9 January 2023
There have been a great many murder mystery's released before and since this film in 1945. Despite this film continues to endure as a classic among them, the comedic moments hit and don't feel out of place (for the most part) in the context of the scenes they're in.

Yet the tension stays strong and the tonal whiplash is minimal if truly existing at all through the skilled use of every available technique at their disposal.

There is a constant progression through the use of the ten Indians slowly being taken out one by one, which means unlike many other murder mysteries films (even those that are considered beloved), the ending feels earned, meaningful, well paced and logical.

Main takeaway: highly recommend.

Now You See Me (I) (2013)

Amazing the first time
9 January 2023
The first time I watched Now you see me I considered it to be my favourite film, it felt complex, so many twists and turns, how the team incorporated technology into their tricks/heist type things were awesome

but then

I watched it a second time

and it was pretty hard to watch

There was no mystery to drive my interest, and that seemed to be the primary aspect for which the film relied on, in most other aspects it ended up feeling blasé. The monologues of the characters (and there are a few, so if your not into that, it may not be the film for you) felt shallow and basic, the characters were ok, but nothing particularly special. The only thing that kept my interest in any capacity was the sci fi technology used, and even my interest in that was severely sapped as most of the interest in it was routed around the mysteries of which were mad no longer mysterious to me.

Main takeaway - great the first time, but don't rewatch it and don't watch the sequel.
