Riverdale (2017)
Way Off Target
Shallow characters, unrealistic settings, confusing time period that's never existed, and situations that are only designed to push boundaries, instead of an actual story.
The only murder victim here is the use of Archie comics for the characters.
It's unclear who the intended target audience was supposed to be, but it's certainly not fans of the comic series. After-all, most Archie fans will be annoyed by the character portrayals, and for those who have never read the comics, the numerous references will go unnoticed. So, what was the point?
My guess is that it's simply intended to be another teen drama that strives to shock viewers. Since those boundaries have already been pushed to the network limit, they hoped that by setting it in the Archie universe, it would help serve to magnify the shock value even more.
After-all, if the goal was to create a modern series, based around the Archie universe, appealing to fans and newcomers alike, then they could've simply looked towards the 2015, comic reboot for their source material. http://www.polygon.com/comics/2015/7/8/8900999/archie-1-reboot-mark- waid
