Christmas in the Highlands (2019)
Um, no thank you
Was nothing better on TV and decided to give it a go - big mistake. Made it to about 15 minutes and switched to a music channel. The acting, especially from the female protagonist, is so bad I could not bear to watch any longer.
I did not give it a rating, as I did not finish it, but from what I saw I could it give it no more than 3 - and that's because of the male protagonist, he really did give his best, but too bad there was no chemistry between him and the female lead.
I strongly recommend to skip this poor attempt for a romantic Christmas movie and choose something old, but gold - like Home Alone, for instance.
Look Both Ways (2022)
Surprisingly good
I totally did not expect this movie to be so good. I turned it on in order to pass some time but boy was I hooked! It is easy to follow despite the constant switch between the "both ways". The casting was spot on - everyone played their parts perfectly and were believable.
I absolutely loved the message this movie sends - if you keep going, one step at a time, and follow your heart you will, eventually, be okay. And this is my favourite line from the movie - "You're okay".
I totally recommend watching this if you are searching for a light and easy watching movie for a night in. And don't forget the tissues 😉
Purple Hearts (2022)
Tried so hard to like it...
...but failed. The chemistry between the main characters was very bad, almost non existent. The female heroine, Cassie, had awful attitude and the "Be kind" bumper sticker had me LOL, such irony. The songs were okay, although there were some parts where the screeching was too much. The plot was interesting, but reading the comments I understood it had nothing to do with the military reality which is not unusual for a movie, but I am keen on movies who are as close to the real world as possible.
All in all, it is not a complete waste of time, but surely there are other movies worth the two hour watch.
The Royal Treatment (2022)
Cringe
I haven't seen such an awful movie in a long time. Awful acting, awful script everything about this movie is awful - Netflix must take it down immediately and redeem the amount of one month's subscription to whoever started watching this joke of a movie. I stopped watching at 23 min because I could see my brain from so much eyerolling.
Not Just a Girl (2022)
Pretty good watch
I really liked this documentary. I am not a huge fan of Shania, I like most of her music and having time to kill I decided to give it a go. After watching Not Just A Girl, I have a lot more respect for her given all that life has thrown her way and how she managed to overcome it. You go Shania!!!
Halftime (2022)
Waste of time
Let's start by saying I am not a super fan of J. Lo - I like some of her songs, some of her movies and she is no doubt an incredible dancer. I was curious to have a look "backstage" and I was very disappointed that this documentary was Jennifer b!thcing and whining for hour and a half about anything and everything - especially about her not getting an Oscar nomination for "Hustlers" and she having to share the stage with Shakira at the halftime show. She was complaining about her family not being excited about her movie premiere, she was complaining about her sister bringing her dog to the Thanksgiving dinner, she was complaining about the size of the stage and so on and so on.
Way more talented actors have waited years to be nominated or win an Oscar, but we don't see them complaining in documentaries. And this year's Super bowl halftime show was a masterclass of how more than one superstar can share the stage without any fuss.
Unfortunately J. Lo proved that she is a demanding diva and I feel sorry for everyone who works for her.
