Can be funny - but the game should be 30 not 60 mins

@ftermidnight is a reboot of @midnight. This takes a show that was 30 mins (really 20 mins) to being 60 (really 40 mins). The game show goes on too long. From forced laughter to exhaustion of every answer in the first 20 minutes gets points, there's a reason even non-comedy game shows limit it to 30 mins.

Taylor is a great comedian. With 40 minutes, there's time for a monologue + game show. Understand CBS went to this game show to cut costs vs James Corden's show, but it's only but so long before an hour long game show alone will lack the ratings to justify even drug or political ads. They cast a phenomenal host and the game show can work as part of the show. It needs a monologue upfront and the game show can replace the guest interviews other shows do.

A show for those who think

There's something more. If you're looking for a show with subtle clues as to what's ahead this is it. The first episode has done a great job setting up who Peter is and why he's a part of the main characters. Its a show that explores the generation of Americans that finally gets to achieve self-actualization and discover they have no idea how to do that. Other reviews have said they are not sure what the show is about. That, I think, is by design. This show invites us to be curious - to live without tidy resolution from one hour to the next. For some, that will be refreshing. For others, it will drive them crazy.

Californication (2007–2014)

This show has great potential

The pilot was great. It sets up a scene of a man who is really just about to hit rock bottom. This show does not condone his behavior, as several times he makes it clear he does not like his life and pretty much wishes he could change things and it is clear he has a vision of what his utopia is.

This series is definitely a comedy, but it encourages its viewers to think about the challenges faced in falling down. Duchoveny's character's behavior is strongly influenced by 2 events in his life: his book is turned into a terrible movie & his girlfriend who he parents a daughter with ends up leaving him after he expresses no desire to commit. Sure, he goes around having quite a bit of random sex, but this is setting the scene for what seems to be a quality show that will be an example of the statement "growing up has nothing to with age."

Definitely will be interesting to watch this Fall.
