Burning Bridges (1990)
Worth watching! WAHOOOOO
You gotta love Lifetime with all the good choices in movies to show. Some real life and others fiction. "Burning Bridges" was actually worth it. Meredith Baxter Birney, Nick Mancuso, and Derek deLint played their roles very well. Kick ass in fact. MBB is the wife and her husband is Mancuso. MBB has an affair with the married DdL and realizes she loves him more than her husband. Soon after that she has a nervous breakdown, checks herself into a hospital to get better and get her life in order. The nervous breakdown was sooooo great too! One of the best scenes. It's so much fun watching characters break down. What's interesting is that MBB's husband confronts her lover but he runs into his office like a little girl. Then MBB confront's her lover's wife and I was laughing so bad. Yes, there were some bitch fights and that was fantastic. The story flows from start to finish. You should watch this movie for yourself. It's worth it. 10 out of 10 stars!
A Burning Passion: The Margaret Mitchell Story (1994)
Terrible! - SPOILERS
As usual, it's late night and so I turned to Lifetime to see what movie was on, not expecting anything that would actually be intriguing. I read the info for this movie and it said that Shannen Doherty was in it and that made me laugh. [and don't chastise me for bad spelling. thank you! :O) ]
This movie is about the life of Margaret Mitchell, who's the author of the famous novel GONE WITH THE WIND. I wasn't around for the release of GWTW, but later I saw it and loved it. I thought watching the life story of Margaret Mitchell would be interesting since GWTW is based on her real life. Margaret Mitchell grew up in a time when women didn't have jobs and just the thought of a woman working was just impossible. Margaret Mitchell proved everyone wrong and got a job. She also married an abusive husband named "Red Upshaw" while another man, "John Marsh", had a crush on her. Gee, doesn't that sound familiar. I don't know if she married John Marsh because I didn't really watch the rest close enough to care.
Margaret Mitchell writes the novel GONE WITH THE WIND and it is a best seller. This is where the movie ends. Before the credits rolled, there was a message that said that John Upshaw committed suicide in some year and that Margaret Mitchell was hit by someone in 1949.
Someone told me that she was hit by a car before and then I realized that I should go out and beg someone to hit me with a car because the movie was just not worth it and a total piece of crap. Shannen Doherty playing Margaret Mitchell was just terrible. There were scenes where she was getting smacked by her husband (Red Upshaw) and I was cheering that on and wishing I could smack her too! Dale Midkiff as Upshaw was well acted because Midkiff is a great actor. Matt Mulhern played "John Marsh" and he was excellent. Mulhern is a great actor and so adorable!
Watch this movie if you dare. You have been warned. You might want to either get drunk or stoned, or both, to watch this. If you watch it, don't get all angry with this review talking about how such a piece of crap it was and I don't blame Lifetime for showing it at such a later hour either (11pm-1:15am). I checked to see the ratings for this movie and realized FEMALES AGES 45+ were the ones who gave this movie such a high rating. That's not a surprise. They probably saw some woman overcome the struggles during that time era... yadda yadda yadda..... and cheered her on. That age grew up around times when women really didn't have a place in society work. I am NOT against that, but there's no need to give this movie a 10 when it's really a 1 or 2.
So yes, I give this movie a 1-2 stars out of 10.
The Killing Mind (1991)
YESSSSSSSSS!
This was really a great movie. Great plot, characters, locations, etc... The actors and actresses were also just as great. Stephanie Zimbalist at her best. 5 out of 5 stars! Watch this movie!
If you like detective movies, you will like this movie. Each character works well with the other characters and there is nothing at all bad about this movie. It's like Perry Mason and Matlock. Stephanie Zimbalist is great as a female detective and she should do some more detective movies. Watch this movie!
Betrayed: A Story of Three Women (1995)
What the.....???
As usual, I was flipping thru the channels and came across this movie. I started watching it, and being on Lifetime, I was ready with my toilet paper roll I use as kleenex.
So the movie progressed and it was getting more stupid by the minute. Meredith Baxter and Swoosie Kurtz's rolls started out to be really crappy, but when "the affair" is revealed they're at eachother's throats like some cat fight from Dynasty.
The entire movie sucked. That I know for a fact. The love story in the middle was just like watching a Carrot Top commercial, only more sickening. I was waiting for a house to be set on fire by one of the other family members. THAT would've been interesting.
Joan Bixler's, played by Swoosie Kurtz, daughter Dana (played by Clare Carrey) gets "REALLY CLOSE" to Amanda Nelson's (played by Meredith Baxter) husband Rob (played by John Terry). The movie is predictable and still crappy.
Yes, I will probably watch this movie again, but only because it's that bad and laughable. I don't know why this movie was even made, and it certainly didn't help any of the actors and actresses careers after this. Even with its predictability, there was no saving this movie. It went from "WHAT THE *** WERE THEY THINKING?" to "OH MY GOD! WHAT THE **** WAS I THINKING IN WATCHING THIS?" ...It's such a shame this movie was that bad. Then again, it was on Lifetime.
You can still watch this for yourself and for your own opinion, but you were warned! You might want to bring a bucket just in case.
The Lookalike (1990)
Grrrrreat!
As usual I was flipping thru the channels and came across this movie. I came in about 1/3 after it started and was almost hooked. I recognized Melissa Gilbert, Thaao Penghlis, and Diane Ladd, and thought it would have to be an interesting movie.
Well I was right. This was a really interesting movie. It's about this woman, Gilbert, trying to piece her life together, and then some weird things start happening. She thinks she sees her "doppleganger" walking around the same town she is, and is completely scared since she doesn't know what to make of the situation.
After some well needed therapy, the pieces all start to fall into place and she realizes what's really going on. The root of her evil goes all the way back to when she was a very little girl, traveling with her mom and her twin sister on this road while it is pouring rain. Gilbert soon gets thrown from the car and falls into a lake. From then on, her life is never the same.
In the end there is a nice little happy ending to the story/movie. Great acting, great everything. Watch this movie. You will like it. Now if you don't like it, that's okay. I give this between a 4 to 5 out of 5 stars.
Her Best Friend's Husband (2002)
Yes!
I was very excited about seeing commercials for this movie because amongst all the repeats, it was refreshing to see a new movie on cable. Being on Lifetime I also thought I would have to bring the kleenex. In the end it wasn't that bad of a movie.
In the beginning you can see the wife/ex-wife distancing herself from the husband and one might think she's having an affair, but she's just really "re-evalutating" her life, blah blah blah. So now the husband is confused and here comes the best friend. This movie is predictable and the actors/actresses in it did a really good job. Cheryl Ladd, Bess Armstrong, Lindy Booth, and William R. Moses were all well chosen for the parts. Cheryl Ladd and William R. Moses are 2 of my favorite actors.
However, the movie soon started dragging on and on and I found that the only good roll was the boyfriend of the daughter who didn't have that many speaking parts. Watch this movie for yourself. I would have liked it if there was some more fighting like from that imfamous scene from the soap opera "Dynasty". Yea, note the "nasty" in there. Anyway, watch this movie. You might like it. I give is 3 our of 5 stars.
Just watch this and form your own opinion. It's not as cheesey as most of the movies on Lifetime. Give it a chance. If you don't like it, that's okay. If you like it, that's cool!
