Las niñas bien (2018)
Cufflink killed it
It was an interesting film, low profile but giving pleasure and all.. and then one sees the cufflinks again. Such a cheap shot at drama!! Totally illogical even with the logics set by this movie. Killed it for me.
The Alienist (2018)
Why are you taking viewers for a fool?
If you disregard simple facts and ploys even a 12 year old can see, and hope your viewers don't just to ensure you have another episode of intrigue and mystery; you have no respect for the beautiful work you have initially set out to do, let alone have respect for your viewers. Shake on you gentlemen! You have an assassination attempt on the heroes during which someone gets killed; you treat it as a candy store shopping with complete disregard for even the logic or ardousness of escape. You have another assassination, but you let it go with a silly questioning scene, because it would have removed antagonists from subsequent episodes; and senseless drama to follow is more apt for television. Last but not least, you find the killer, his den where he will be back in a couple of hours, but you just jump on the next day because kller cannot be caught that easily, it is just not that cinematographic. You sir, have no respect for the work and effort of people who apparently tried so hard with settings, decor, costumes, casting and you sacrifice it because you simply cannot write a proper script due to your incapacity!
Flight (2012)
Big Disappointment after an Awesome Beginning
If Oscar's had a category for a best start in a movie, Flight would make the all time short list. And after the first 15-20 minutes, it is all downhill (pun intended), filling no promise it had committed, moving from one story to another, never deciding what it wants to be at the end, but shooting off not quite subtle messages/discourses all along the way. The tempo falls, every next scene becomes predictable, acting becomes extreme to save a bit of the catastrophe, clichés run on top of one another. And in such long, slow moving movie, there are still bits and pieces left untold. Actually you realize in afterthought, what you perhaps hoped a pinch of thriller added into movie was just simple, humor error, without which this movie could not come to an end, which itself was a lame message.
Gosh, this is simply one of the big disappointments of 2012.
The Producers (2005)
I cannot understand why the original movie rates higher
I gave this one probably 1-2 stars higher rating than I would have. Purely a reaction to original movie's higher rating. Come on folks, except few scenes, this version is far superior to Mel Brook's take on so many grounds. And I am a Mel Brook's fan. Acting, script, editing, directing is all better. Some characters in the original movie really irk you both by their portrayal and their poor acting, whereas they are quite jolly in the remake.
It must be longing for nostalgia or a snobbish dislike to remakes. If you have to choose in between, go for the younger one if you yourself are younger than 50. However, if you have the time to see the both, see both most definitely, but after giving yourself sometime in between.
London Voodoo (2004)
This DVD will be given away as a tip at this week's worst service restaurant! Befitting punishment!
A movie that you pick only if you have no IMDb access at that very moment, as i did not, and be lured by the graphic work of the cover and the marketing gibberish that went into it. I can only get angry with myself to pick this one based on above.
Could Mr. Pratten redeem my 2 hours since i was not smart like one of the earlier reviewers and not just switched off after the first 10 goofs in first 10 minutes? or bad script? definitely terrible directing?
I can hardly throw away an old sock, such a terrible collector i am, but this DVD will be given away as a tip at this week's worst service restaurant! Befitting punishment!
Watch it only if you are in the set of mind to make fun of a movie, and this is a great bargain and you'll have lots of laughs!
Legend of the Seeker (2008)
A Great Writing Wasted By Terrible Directing, Poor Acting
Take a great novel with fantastic settings, colourful-classical elements of magic, wizardry, medieval swordsmanship, unique characters.. Splash them on breathtaking New-Zealand, impeccable decor, accessoires, costumes.. You have money and unequalled technical capabilities to bring them all forth..
And spoil them with average high-school quality directing, poor script writing, and actors lost in this poor directing, spilling out their worst performances.
If it were not for the love of the genre, one would not bother at all. So, either you live and breathe to see this and ready to oversee everything else; or you just sadden yourself for such wasted opportunity and move on.
I only hope producers will not blame the genre and the novel for the inevitable failure, and perhaps take measures before it is already too late, if it isn't already.
