The Son (I) (2022)
6/10
I had high expectations for the cast but I don't feel "The Son" delivered.
9 June 2023
The cast worked hard to promote "The Son" and based on what was said about the film, I gave it a shot. Certain scenes (Hopkins work was on point, Dern's & Jackman's scene across the table was well done, Kirby's performance was subtle and nuanced.) Ultimately, the movie doesn't hold up to the hype. The task was big- to take such a challenging subject like mental illness and a family's struggle to save one of their own-and put it in a film. Between the writing/editing/some of the acting, it was just ok with a few good scenes. It doesn't feel genuine. "The Son" sunk. It could have been so much better. For such a talented cast, this should have been a home run.
