Beowulf (2007)
Went in with extremely high expectations, and came out feeling like i saw a half descent film
Most of us know the poem's story of Beowulf so I'm not going into high detail. I saw the movie in 3d and there wasn't much 3d in it. only one or two objects really popped out. The movie was somewhat boring and dull with a few startling moments. Some of the visuals were good but they definitely weren't terrific. The movie did have some action in it especially the last 30 minutes, but the ending is quite disappointing. Another thing- if your going in just to see an animated Angelina Jolie- don't, not only are you a pervert, but you'll be a pervert who has wasted 10 bucks to see it in 3d. Anyway, the movie isn't too exciting. If you want a good fantasy movie go with Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, not this.
We Are the Strange (2007)
Amazing and Incredible new way of telling a story and animation
First things first- this was intelligent and crazy. The animation was the best I've ever seen. A blend of 3d, stop motion, and 8 bit (first type of video game).
The art: The 8 bit clouds were beautiful, the dark colors, and the anime girl Blue were simply amazing. The colors although some were yellows and stuff, they were all on the darker side.
The Story: Funny, hilarious, stupid, doesn't matter that much. Don't watch it for the plot watch it for its stunning visuals.
I have the 2 disc special edition and the second disc is hilarious with a bunch of mdotstrange extra features.
Watch it and have fun.
The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising (2007)
Okay as a movie sort of annoyed me because I read the book
There are major annoying and unnecessary plot changes in The Seeker. More than half the scenes in the movie never occur in the book. This made me angry and wanted to destroy the screen.
The Good: People who didn't read the book and don't understand what a predictable plot is will really enjoy the movie. The movie "adaption" (I use the term very loosely) will please young children who are too lazy to read the book.
The Bad: Will can be very annoying at times, and almost all the other characters can be too.
Annoying Things Will does: "Can I fly?" Can't figure out who the sixth sign is even though it's almost the same in every movie. The actor of Merriman is also fairly obnoxious and doesn't act like Merriman did at all.
Will's family isn't loving like they are in the book which bothers me. They already changed everything (man even the names of the signs got changed) else in no they make Will's family with the exception of the little sister who's not even in the book not care about him. Jeez what's wrong with the directors.
The movie also takes place in present time as opposed to the 70's when the books were written.
They took away the Arthurian legend too which will make it almost impossible to do books 1, 3, 4, and 5 without completely changing it like they did to this one.
Included in obnoxious characters is The Rider who appears every other scene to tell this mysterious and impossibly hard (sarcasm) to figure out hooded figure that "you have one last chance" and then rides off.
Overall the movie is predictable, not fun for people who have read, and fascinating for people who don't like to read books.
By the way Susan Cooper highly dislikes this movie.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
Great Movie
I love the book I love the movie. Fans may or may not enjoy the frusturated Harry. I personally enjoyed it. Just my type of movie. Although certain things were cut we all have to be real. You have to draw the line somewhere. The ending scene is really cool and just how I imagined it. I can't way for future Harry Potter films. The acting was also very good. I am hoping they keep up the great adaptions. The director really uses great special effects and good camera angles. If you haven't read the book you might want to or else you might be a bit confused. The new actors and actresses are extremely great. Luna and the new Dudley are a charm. I hope you enjoy the film just as much as I did.
