A Christmas for the Ages (2023)
Disappointing
I won't reiterate the negative comments in other reviews, many of which I agree with, but am commenting on the unbelievable casting. Natasha Bure is 25 years old, and the actors portraying her parents are 41. Do the math. Kate Craven especially looks too young to be her mom. Though Cheryl Ladd is old enough to be the grandmother, the amount of plastic surgery she's had makes her look to young for the role. I'm not criticizing her choice to have the surgery, only that it makes her look too young for the role, unless the 3 younger generations in this Christian family all had teenage pregnancies.
Wilderness (2023)
Very different from the book
I enjoyed this as escapeism once I was able to accept that it was almost nothing like the book, though I've never understood why filmmakers/screenwriters feel the need to depart so much from the book. Why not just write a whole new plot?
I was enthralled with much of Jenna Coleman's performance. There were several scenes where she never spoke, but let her facial expressions and body language convey her emotions.
There were several scenes that I found pointless or unbelievable, the most egregious being the lesbian scenes. Such a hackneyed plot device. She's wronged by a man, so she turns to woman. I if I was a lesbian, I would be offended by the portrayal of Ash taking advantage of Liv when she was emotionally vulnerable and drunk.
If you read the book, which was much more complex and layered, you'll need to try to put it out of your mind and try to watch this as an almost totally different story.
A Christmas Wish in Hudson (2021)
Must Miss
I'm a sucker for romance movies, but this one was a time waster. As other reviewers have written, the acting, production, writing are all sub par. All the actors could use acting lessons. In particular, the actress playing Lori chose to play the role as an innocent, inexperienced adolescent. I kept expecting her to coyly look to the dude while shuffling her feet and saying "aw shucks". Her reaction to the kiss was that of someone who had never been kissed before.
There was absolutely no chemistry between the lead actors, which is especially ironic considering that they have a conversation about how they felt inexplicably drawn to each other the first time they met.
