Great Performances: Jesus Christ Superstar (2000)
This version is Different!
I grew up with the old broadway soundtrack (we had it like, forever) and really liked the 1973 movie version, which I only saw 2 or 3 times.
This version is not bad exactly, but it is different. I really like the way they modernised it a bit, but some voices were way off. I don't think that's only because I am used to the broadway-version, because I didn't have it with the old movie. It's just that it does not really work for me. It made the impression that they sing with the stress in a sentence different enough to prevent comments on being just a copy, but it makes it come out unnaturally sometimes.
If you want something different from the old version, give this a try. If you give me a choise, i'd go for the old version, but maybe for the people who didn't like it or have never seen it this may work.
Here in the Netherlands there is usually a station that broadcasts JCS at easter, but all the tv-listings I saw this year (2002) thought it was the old version that was to be broadcasted, but it turned out to be this version. Funny how you get so used to a repeating thing, that you just assume it will be the same next time.
Oh, one last thing. I thought Rik Mayall did not act up to his standerd. He could have done better easilly!
Paranoid (2000)
Good adaption, definately worthwile
I think this is a very good adaption. It is only seven minutes, the text is just the original text and the images are very dark in a broad sence of the word en match very good with the narration. It's definately worth seeing, especially since it is a free download (70 MB) from the official website. You'll get a good widescreen version that is hi-res!
