Aggro Dr1ft (2023)
Very Dissapointing
I have a low standard for movies. I'll watch just about anything and find something to enjoy. Yet this movie dissapointed me because it offers so little.
This movie wants to be carried by the gimmick that is it's visual style. There are interesting aspects but it could've been done better in a ten minute YouTube video. This feels like a experiment that was dragged out to a feature length film.
There are few characters and none of them are developed. There is no coherent plot just the monologuing of the main character. There is almost no action aside from a couple brief assinations.
I checked my watch probably ten times wondering when it would end. I also considered walking out about half way through. There were scenes so bad that I laughed out loud.
I don't recommend wasting your time...
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Messy messy messy
There is too much going on in this film. It shows in both the runtime and pacing. They were trying to go too big too fast. It should've been multiple different movies. Gwen could've had her own film based on the introduction.
You don't get enough time to relate with the characters or appreciate the story beats. They just keep whipping you from one major event to another. There are also several weird plot holes as a result. It just brain my mind numb by the end.
This remind me of Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. The writers wanted to squeeze a whole cinematic universe's worth of content into one movie. Some people may love the ambition, but I just don't see the masterpiece everyone else is talking about.
Terrifier 2 (2022)
Dissapointing
The first movie really surprised me. It was a great throw back to the original slasher movies. The movie started tame and ramped up slowly. There was one gory set piece and the twist ending, but it otherwise remained pretty grounded.
This sequel tries to deliver more of everything and ultimately fails. There are too many characters and scenes carry on for too long. There is more gore but the kills are less creative. The movie also has too many supernatural elements that undermine the horror.
The movie should have been shorter. Remove several kills and random fight scenes. Add more creative kills with humorous payoffs. Keep one gory "set piece" but remove the rest. Add one or two new elements to Art's lore but remove everything else supernatural.
I was excited for this movie but it left me very disappointed. I have zero interest in a third movie. There was some real squandered potential here.
Other random bad things:
- Art has supernatural strength that he uses arbitrarily
- Magic sword
- Credit scene is stupid
- Too many long shots of the heroine with synth wave music
Other good things:
- Clown girl
- Clown cafe song
- Candy bowl scene.
