Sweetbitter (2018–2019)

A show that would have thrived in this era.
22 April 2024
Sadly, this came out in an era where all the rage was focused on pure fantasy and surrealism, the days where Game of Thrones was the only thing people talked about, and the culminating fandom of the Avengers was all that mattered for most.

As for Sweetbitter, it's just a good TV show, back to basics, and who doesn't love the food and service industry, it had two great concepts working for it. Dialogue is natural and character development was getting so juicy that I feel absolutely robbed of joy by its early cancellation. I can only hope another network/streaming picks this up and all the actors are willing to come back and at least give us a couple more seasons.

Better than any recent AAA franchise.
25 September 2023
This was genuinely funny, a great twist on the slasher/horror genre. I'm in for a sequel.

It's mind boggling that big studios with their AAA franchise movies like Scream or Halloween, keep making boring slasher sequels with no humor and just reused ideas.

If you want to have a laugh while enjoying your slasher with very light horror sprinkled on top, watch this!

Every actor did a great job, it's all new faces as far as I could recall, no dumb conversations or plot fillers, thing just moved organically. It's very well shot and edited.

It really seems everyone involved was having fun and not just making movies with dollar signs on their minds.

Increíble cinematografía

Un placer visual y auditivo, "me quito el sombrero" para el director.

Un homage a Wizard of Oz, con una historia divertida y fácil de digerir. Un casting ideal.

An audio visual treat, magnificent cinematography, hats off for the director. Wonderfully casted, easy to follow, great homage to Wizard of Oz, but an original and creative story that's entertaining and easy to follow.

Absolutely loved revisé of colors to tell the story, the score is absolutely on point.

Congratulations to everyone involved, I only wish cinema keeps moving in this direction and studios green lit more pictures like this. Good on Netflix for backing this.

Of course they would agree to do this documentary.

These jerkwads are so empty headed they thought the filmmakers were going to shine positive light on them.

It takes a special kind of moron to talk in front of a camera and think people are gonna empathize with you, no growth and sadly they are procreating and bringing children into their f'ed up life.

Both the guy and the girl(and the mom) show how stupid and careles you have to be to be involved in something like this.

The epitome of a empty headed human raised by reality TV. If you want a summary of how bad this is; one of the dimwits thinks Kim Kardashian is a genius because of x tape...

Absolute waste of time. It moves so slow.

Even at 1h19m it feels like it drags for 2hrs! Pointless and aimless dialog.

It's just plain bad, who wrote this? Why is J. K Simmons involved in this? That's the only reason I gave it a chance in the first place.

Awful casting choice with Dave Franco
16 August 2022
Always good to see a new vampire movie, although it disappointed; just boring and predictable. Jamie Fox is great, worked with what he had.

Dave Franco offers nothing to the role, he's so one dimensional. He's got one face, one weird geeky voice, a horrible sounding scream with b*tch tone, and he's a manlet. He basically acts the same way in very movie he is in.

Cliche after cliche after cliche. Not really funny, a bunch of attempts to exploit the "Pocho" culture in LA. At some point the decides to take a turn to the dramatic. A movie that really does everything mediocre.

Declines into ridiculousness.

Can't blame them for trying a new concept. But "swing an a miss".

Starts ok, some scary elements and overall good eerie ambiance. Then in a classic old fashion horror movie; character actions/decisions aren't on par with reality. Add to that the silliness of the plot with a completely miss handling of the "monster" thing. And you get another could-have-been-good horror flick.

I wouldn't recommend, but also it's something to watch at night.

Once I see his name associated with a picture I gotta give it a go.

Wonderful movie. Simple movie making at its finest. Hats off to Natalie Morales. A lot of heart on the scrip and great acting.

Oh, did I just watch Scream 6 ?
19 December 2021
Because that's 99% of what people do in this movie.

Director is in love with Sinatra, let's just get that outta the way, because it makes as much sense as his whole movie.

If you like Barbara Mori, please don't watch this movie. You'll absolutely hate her after; and not because she did a great job as an antagonist you'll love-to-hate-her, but because she basically shouted all her lines from beginning to end.

It was completely unnecessary and didn't help any scene at all. The director/writer should pay to have this online, it's torture!

Script is trash, nothing original, the whole movie is spent fighting/shouting and then some scenery. Then repeat again.

There's a few very bad attempts at comedy, poorly written and executed.

The real funny thing is that people speak to each other in their own language, Americans; English and Mexicans; Spanish, but magically everything is understood... oh except for one teenager who switches back and forth between the two languages every other word.

Man this guy director/writer must have mailed this one in. What sad display.

A little to contrived.
14 December 2021
Even for a movie and to more effect; a horror story that deals with real world problems in society, characters need to act realistically or the story becomes rubbish.

There's a lot of great visual, the SFX team knocked it out of the park, but story and character killed it, decisions made need to be on par with reality.

Climax scene has a cringe "hero" moment, grownup's and children don't react that way.

Genius comedy writing. Matthew Del Negro carried the show with his character.

It's not bing bang theory with the ridiculous laugh track. If you need somebody to let you know when to laugh or not. Go watch some fox/cbs shows.

Movie ruined by Score.
26 November 2021
Who ever decided to put cheesy "tense" and "malicious guy" music over some of the scenes should be fired from show business, never to score a movie again.

It's a good script and it builds good enough to keep you questioning. Nothing ground breaking though.

Awful script and even worse directing. Bad acting all around lead by JLC.

I don't get it. Why are they still making these like they were receiving prestigious acclaim.

The hatch was open

The cop that described the scene screwed up and said it was close on arrival; WRONG already been cleared and corrected. But people want to go down a rabbit hole anyway.

Elisa was mentally Ill and was having a Schizophrenic episode because she didn't take her medication. Went up to the roof and jumped in an OPEN waters tank escaping from whatever her mind was creating.

These guys need to do better background research.

15 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
End of story, Alisa didn't take her pills, no doubt in her mind she was being chased and jumped into the tank in her Schizophrenic state of mind.

A dumb and lazy cop gave the wrong description of the scene once arriving. Sending a bunch of conspiracy theorist on a wild "who done it".

This needed to be 45min tops.

Even Ashley Greene looks bad in this, or maybe there's a reason she hasn't been around good stuff anymore...

Bad acting, bad script, hallmark level directing. It's the trifecta.

Drama is pointless absolutely fails to connect in any way; we don't care about these people yet the movie tries so hard to make you shed a tear.

Super silly plot and "twist" just another movie to watch on Netflix when you have nothing to do on a Sunday afternoon.

As a "regular" viewer; I did not like it.
28 April 2021
I didn't have any expectations. Didn't even know it was part of a franchise or whatever.

Saw half of the trailer, I thought meh, seems like final destination-ish. I'll give it a go.

Movie starts off as one thing keeps going forever and turns into another thing.

Just silly, few cliches on characters and just plain boring. Started editing a video 3/4 into it, kept one ye on it for the rest, my wife finished it because she just wanted to see how it ended.

Let's take everything that worked in other movies
11 March 2021
And make a horrible clone!

Horrible writing, pointless scenes and just plain plagiarism.

Couple kids that look like Michael Cera And Jona Hill: check.

Friends are having beef because one is going of to college and the other is a dumbass: check.

A lot party scenes that make no sense: check.

Female love interest that appear unreachable but at the end somehow they get: check.

Friends are desperate virgins: check.

Couple of looney cops like Bill Hader and Seth Rogen: check.

The only saving grace is Fred Armisen, the character he plays is truly naturally funny.

Should have called it "trying so hard to be super bad" the movie. Who knew Colin Jost was such a hack writer.

Falls apart fast, last episodes are CSI level bad.

It's too ambitious to the point of being silly. It's really a middle of the road everything, not really thrilling, not really funny(it's supposed to be dark humor), not really sad.

A lot of forced sentimentality on the characters back story, that at the end was dreading and scoffing.

Fantastic movie, great acting and well shot.
5 February 2021
Richard Jenkins & Shane Paul McGhie did a great job making their characters come to life. It's a movie about real life for many people in the US, that the countries or people in privilege places don't even bat an eye.

A sad reality, but a reality.

This movies is seriously funny, hats off to the brothers. Nate is great as usual, great chemistry with Alex.

It has emotional moments, very touching for any animal lover.

Sad other don't see the writers vision and are so harsh.

It's a comedy for young adult with a fresh sense of humor.

Plot is not good enough.
28 July 2020
While watching the movie I was thinking: this is way to much work for a Peeping Tom (which are usually profiled as cowards) to go through, JUST to get his cameras back. And let alone if people found them they would just blame the owner of the house.

Then the very last frame of the movie rolled through and I got my answer. Pretty lame. Like an easy way out for Franco to get away with not writing something better; a more elaborate way to connect the story or give a motive.

Directing/screenplay is an 8/10, writing is 2/10. So a 5/10 as a whole.
