Cuando acecha la maldad (2023)
When horror doesn't make any sense anymore...
A few years ago, Demián Rugna directed Aterrados. The story didn't make any sense. It was a succession of ideas with no correlations between them... but the film was creepy and scary as hell. It was a tour de force. Could have been a masterpiece with a good script.
When Evil Lurks is NOT scary. There are intense scenes, yeah, a few well done jump scares (the dog scene)... but no long moments of fear like in Aterrados. Instead we have gore and violence. On that part, the direction is pretty well done, considering the low budget.
But once again, the script is a hot mess. Nothing makes sense. Some rules are pointless, others are not respected and some seem to change from one scene to another.
For instance, how demons can possess... clothes??? XD
Individual belongings must be let behind when fleeing a place where a demonic possession happened. So why do they travel by car??? If the clothes are possessed, why not the car?
Then, it is forbidden to use flashlight in presence of the demon (you'll never learn why or the consequences)... but you can chase a demon with the lights of the car.
Then, the demon is omniscient. He's everything and can possessed several people on different locations. And finally, the possessed can be healed (the girl)... or not (the mother).
You would think that's enough. But no... don't forget the deaths that have no reason to happen.
Or the absence of ending. After all, why should there be one, right?
Demián Rugna main motivation was to shock the audience. Didn't care at all to tell a coherent or interesting story.
I won't even mention the mediocre dialogues and characters or the ugly photography.
Huge disappointment.
Muere, monstruo, muere (2018)
Pointless ridiculous film
Nothing really happens during the movie. You'll see a couple of decapitations, ugly characters, cops who are supposed to investigate a series of murder but who are more passive than anything else, paranormal activities that are never explained (hey, don't ask to much! lol), scenes involving motorcyclists that don't have any purpose except for the director who certainly judged it would be cool to shoot them in his movie...
And you'll listen to so-called philosophic crypto dialogues... I mean most of the dialogues doesn't have any sense or are literally boring!
And the final moments of the movie shows finally the monster. Yes, there is a monster and the production design is really good actually. But the last scene involving the monster and the main character is one of the most stupid thing I've ever seen on big screen...
