Andor (2022)
Stay with it..
I watched first few episodes and lost interest. Revisited series after reading other reviews to see if my initial judgement was off.... And yes. It was by a far margin. The stink of Boba Fett and Obi WAN was lingering and I was quick to dismiss. The pace seems slow at first but by end of season 1 it makes sense, that the series creators where not jamming down nostalgic nonsense down your throat but building a story. And it works. Feels like an actual space drama not anchored to a single location like Boba Fett. Many layers for each character, no one is one dimensional, and the best part.... You aren't spoon fed. You need to watch and pay attention and draw out the story for yourself. Give it a watch, you won't be disappointed.
Holiday Switch (2007)
"The Room" of Christmas Movies
I was urged to watch this from a friend. To find out the only comedy or joke, is played on the viewer.
This is a bad movie. There is no one to root for.. the main protagonist starts off wanting to ditch her husband and two kids. Sorry that's a bad person.
Then she "switches" in the magic dryer, and does everything she can to get with the other guy, only to be blown off... so as a last resort she scrambles back to her original family. Not out of choice, but necessity. She basically sexually assaults her way bay to the original dimension.
The only way this movie would have had a happy ending was if both guys left her, and she spent all eternity with a dozen cats.
This is "The Room" of Christmas movies.
The Ranch (2016)
Solid
The perfect show if you want something on in background or have 20 something minutes to kill before bed. Well done, funny, characters grow on you.
Wasn't same after certain cast member departed, but much better than most everything out nowadays.
Solid show, worth the time.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Face palm
Adds nothing, serves no purpose, advances no story, pointless drivel. It's just enough to make you angry. But it's more sad. An ad-libs with Star Wars centric nouns/verbs/adjectives would have been better.
Silicon Valley (2014)
Funniest show of the 2010's
I wish I could watch it all over again for the first time. Very funny, and underrated.
Moment of Truth (2021)
Lazy
Intellectually lazy. Documentary points out "dots" but fails to fully clarify or connect them. A scene where the innocence project attorney is clearly speaking to an iPhone that is not connected to a call, demonstrates the theatrics... its "making a Murder" but without any real contradictory evidence. Incredibly lazy film making.
Cuba and the Cameraman (2017)
Incredible
Incredible documentary about people, and their struggles, mixed in with triumphs and loss. Well done, must see.
Immigration Nation (2020)
A Life Lesson that actions have consequences
A heart wrenching story about a very important life lesson. That lesson is that actions have consequences. Break the law, flout the rules, and it could tear your family apart. Every intended illegal immigrant should watch this as a deterrence.
In the Shadow of the Moon (2019)
Facist Propaganda
The first 30 minutes of this movie are incredible. Then it turns into a "kill the voices of people I don't agree with" (Facism) propaganda film. I'd be fine with the anti Alt-Right films if there was an equal amount of anti Alt-Left films, since I'm a moderate. But it's just agenda driven political nonsense. Hard pass.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Saves the trilogy
I thought the Force Awakens was ok. The last Jedi was horrible. A mess. It left the trilogy in shambles. Prank phone calls, emo Luke.. just bad.
This movie took the broken yolks and makes an omelet. It's not without its own warts and disjointedness but when you factor in what JJ was working with, this movie really is probably the best anyone could have done. So I am grading a bit on a curve.
A satisfactory ending, nice tie-ins, call backs, and most of all, a fun movie!!
Go in with a clear mind and no expectations and it will take you for a wild ride, and you will leave happy.
Living Undocumented (2019)
Unbalanced
There are many aspects and perspectives to "living undocumented". Unfortunately this offers only one perspective. Such a complex issue, where this documentary tries to show a slice of it as being the prevalent. Very clearly one sided, and as such, can be categorized as propaganda. A more even approach could have shown the MS13 killings in Long Island that terrorized a community, or in Howard Co Maryland. A documentary that focused solely on that, also wouldn't show the full picture. Hopefully viewers can recognize it as such.
Westworld (2016)
Season 1: fantastic season 2: unwatchable
This show is a mirror of True Detective. Both season 1's were incredible TV. Across the board, acting, cinematography, pacing, great. Then comes season 2. At least with True Detective season 2, you can follow what is going on, and it has some coherency, you may not have liked it, but it made sense.
This show has turned into absolute unwatchable rubbish nonsense. If True Detective season 3, is any indication of where this show is going, or the network... they are lost.
Annihilation (2018)
Slow paced sci fi think piece
Some of the visuals reminded me of Avatar, very colorful. Movie is slow paced, slow burn mystery, that engages you til end. Don't go in thinking it's a run of the mill Sci-Fi Thriller, the director is same guy who did Ex Machina, and his styling showed. If you enjoyed Ex Machina, then this is worth a view, though probably a small step down quality wise.
I did enjoy the ending, wrapped it up nicely and gave me a good "ah hah!". But not sure if the whole 2 hours up to that point was worth it...
Polar (2019)
Gives you what you want
Great cinematography, great action, one of the coolest shoot em up scenes ever (w gloves), and it's lots of fun. Run time is maybe 15-20 too long, a few slow spots In beginning, but then it's a roller coaster. Will def watch 2nd one.
Next (2007)
Just plain bad
This movie would have been better off being a 2 hour episode of the mtv reality show "next"! There is no development into who the terrorist's are, or why they are doing what they are doing...they do speak some french in the movie. It is never reasoned as to why they are after this Vegas Magician.
It is never explained why Nic Cage's character sought out Jessica Beil besides to get her into bed.
Juliane Moore spends the whole movie yelling at her FBI counterparts who seem to think that maybe she does have a good idea in going after a vegas magician to stop a nuclear attack.
The character development, plot, screen writing, and yes...even acting on Nic Cage's part are absolutely horrendous! This movie is senseless and hurts the brain of anyone who has watched a movie of real value.
The only part of the movie i found remotely entertaining was the sequence where Nic Cage's character morphs into different realms of choices that he could make...that was "neet". besides that this movie is real bad.
Seriously wasn't there already a movie with Nic Cage in it set in LAs Vegas as a washed up has been or never was? Wasn't there a movie already, that had nic cage stealing a car? Wasn't there a movie already where Juliane Moore plays an FBI Agent? This is a tired retread of a movie, witch type casts otherwise talented actors/actresses into familiar roles.
