Special OPS (2020)
Half as good as it could have been
Having Kay Kay Menon to play lead and having such a terrific team to direct and write the story, Special Ops had high hopes but it disappoints the same amount.
The story is weak. The direction is pathetic. The acting by Kay Kay Menon and Vinay Pathak is good but every one else just disappoints. All new comers just fail.
The worst is the time difference ! The story cuts scenes between Delhi, Dubai, Tehran, Baku and Istanbul with same time zones in all countries always.
Also, such a senior person from RAW is chasing his daughter half the time himself which is a stupid part.
Overall, it disappoints.
PK (2014)
Aamir and Raju Hirani can do better than this
PK. A movie expected to be a super hit much before its release because of Aamir Khan's presence and Raju Hirani's direction.
PK, to me, doesn't fall in a good movie category. Its just an OK film. Its nowhere close to be the best works of either Aamir or Raju Hirani. Both can do better films than this one.
The story of the movie is quite pathetic. The plot is kind of stupid and immediately leads the viewer to feeling as to what a wrong decision to watch the movie.
The social message given by PK has recently been conveyed by OMG Oh My God movie in a much better fashion.
Audiences are just appreciating the movie for Aamir's presence and acting. Aamir has acted much better before. He looks like a cheap imitation of Tom Hanks from Forrest Gump.
Special Chabbis (2013)
worth watching more than once !
Finally 2013 has its first Awesome movie. Its been an year with all crappy movies so far. Special 26 steals the show easily.
The characters and actors have been so well chosen. Each actor has got the perfect character. The casting could not have been better than this. The direction is superb. So is the Art Direction. The story does not lag anywhere. So its a superb story with some really good editing.
Talking about actors -
Akshay Kumar - comes out of his day to day roles of khiladi and joker stuff. This is serious cinema which makes him a complete actor.
Anupam Kher - reminds everyone that he is still very much the same awesome actor as the one in 90s.
Jimmy Sheirgill - chooses the right kind of role finally. He perfectly fits the role of SI Ranvir Singh and also fits well in the 1987 plot.
Manoj Bajpai - as good as ever. Special 26 ka CBI inspector Waseem Khan is as good as Wasseypur ka Sardar Khan.
Kavya - hardly any role for her. Shes in the movie for songs only.
Divya Dutta - standard supportive role. does well.
Others - very well done.
Art direction for Delhi steals the show. the 1987 Delhi has been brought alive. details have been worked out well. 1987 Mumbai disappointed. I guess it was very tough to recreate that so the director and the VFX team chose the green screen. Thats the shoddiest part of the movie and hence i gave the 9/10 and not a full tenner.
Verdict : The movie can definitely been seen more than once at a theater if you get the tickets. It is gonna be a houseful for some days.
Inkaar (2013)
Watch the movie for Chitrangada Singh
Acting by both leads - not good enough - 2/10.
Story - too confusing - 2/10.
Plot - interesting could be better - 6/10.
Direction - expect better work from Sudhir Mishra - 3/10.
Music - decent enough - 5/10.
Editing - Too much back and forth in the story makes it confusing for a people - 4/10
Arjun Rampal - good - 7/10.
Chitrangada Singh - Superb. Hot. Amazing looks. - 15 / 10
I suggest watch the movie to see Chitrangada Singh if you are a guy or for Arjun Rampal if you are a girl. The story / plot / acting is not worth looking forward to. Very complex story with confusing editing.
3 Idiots (2009)
amazingly hilarious but ....
i watched the paid preview of this film on Thursday night. i wanted to watch this film for a long time. after the recent release Avatar, this movie was completely in a different league.
the first half of this film is too good. although as per my friends, first half has many a scenes lifted from the book - 5 point someone. still the character building and plot setup works really superbly in this part. the jokes might be really old, they have been very well told.
Aamir is back to usual comic style that he has shown time n again in Dil Chahta Hai , Rang De Basanti, Andaaz Apna Apna. but actors like Booman Irani, Sharman Joshi and Madhavan are not anywhere behind him. they play their parts really well.
in the second half of the film, the story is not left much... so there are certain extended scenes where a few 'ideological' things start happening. the end of the story is quite expected. many a scenes are very typical 'hindi movie' scenes.
overall a must watch film.
watch out for comic scenes where you can fall off your seats of laughter.
Paa (2009)
nice attempt... could have been better
the movie is very simply made. in fact i will say the visual language is almost same as in the other movie by Balki - cheeni kum. Amitabh Bachchan does a nice role. its not easy to play a 12 yr old kid when you yourself are 60+. there are a few points which seem stupid or fake or non-practical. abhishek bachchan's role as a politician is trying to show the latest generation of politicians in India. can be related to rahul gandhi to some extent. the directors take on media at present times is good. hope our media learns a few points from it. vidya balan and the kids in the movie do average roles in the movie.
worth a watch.
Gulaal (2009)
awesome film making this is
the movie Gulaal by Anurag Kashyap is an awesome film. the script, the characters are so well written that there seems no fault in them. all actors have done an amazing performance in the film. songs by Piyush Mishra are well written and amazingly sung. the music also by him is superb.
the movie talks about politics, love and passion in the Rajputana state of Rajasthan. Kay Kay Menon is the senapati of the Rajputana group and tries his best to include all the youth from the state. his ultimate aim being rajputana a separate state all together. on the way to that he tries to influence people from colleges. but there is another person also who wants to lead the Rajputana group. the story of Gulaal deals with this fight for Rajputana and within rajputs.
a must see for everyone. (the movie contains a large number of adult slangs)
Ghajini (2008)
ghajini- over-hyped to the every extent
i had really great expectations from this movie Ghajini because of the actor Aamir Khan. his movies are made after a lot of research... but this i dunno what happened to him and his research. this movie is really badly made and badly written. cant imagine the dialogues are written by piyush mishra. the story is based on the same concept as memento. but this one is no way near it. ghajini is badly directed, written and has bad acting. none of the actresses have left a mark. they have done nothing great at all. aamir himself doesn't impress with his acting. the other actors are also pathetic. the songs and action sequences are typical rajnikant sequences.
Sorry Bhai! (2008)
awesome work by ONIR once again
as was expected by ONIR and the 5 main actors of this movie, the movie is simply great. no one disappoints in the movie. the director has chosen each actor for the right character and has managed to get the best out of each. the story is well dealt as was the case in the movie 'My Brother Nikhil'. suttleness stays throughout. this story as the tag line says deals with a situation of a guy falling in love with his brother's wife. the story's major part is set in a flashback and is supposed to happen in Mauritius. humor remains in the movie at every stage. the audiences enjoy the son's(sharman joshi), dad's (boman irani) and the mom's (shabana azmi) relation. amazing dialogues and superb delivery makes sure one falls off the seat laughing. chitrangada singh looks really good throughout and will definitely carry on the tag the next 'smita patil'. sanjay suri also plays the role to the best potential.
overall a superb watch. i enjoyed it. hope you people also do.
Dasvidaniya (2008)
nice movie
dasvidaniya is a story of a normal man. how he says the last bye of his life. or in fact how he says BYE to life.
the movie is in many ways inspired to by the Hollywood flick 'bucket list'. its just that this movie has just one lead actor rather than 2.
the list is also smaller and wishes are also relatively smaller. basically the movie is very practical in real life situation. it appeals to a common man.
the dialogues are really good and crisp. character sketches of each person are good. a typical rajat kapoor movie or vinay pathak movie.
music by kailash kher is good. noticeable!! some songs are good.
Dostana (2008)
pathetic
this movie is about 2 guys and one girl and their relationships in between them. the movie could have been really different with the same concept. but the this movie they choose a medium of 'homosexuality' to express the same. the issue is being used by Indian cinema these days that it has already gone too far ahead. there have been movies in Indian cinema earlier which have shown that a girl and a guy are best of friends. secondly the issue of gays in society should been with some respect rather than being made fun of. if the industry wants to talk about so many men turning gay, then there are many other ways to show it. look at ' my brother nikhil' for example.
Rock On!! (2008)
old story, nice presentation
the movie is Rock On is not a completely new story to Indian cinema. the story of a few good friends together and separation between them was the highlight if the early 21st cent in movies like dil chahta hain. continuing on similar lines, this movie is an old story presented in a much better way than many others.
at times during the movie one might see connections between DCH and rock on and Jhankar Beats and Rock On. on the other hand, the music of the movie is spectacular. it is very gripping. amazing songs to listen to or watch.
overall and avg viewing movie.
Phoonk (2008)
nice camera work and background score
The great debate between science and superstition continues, but RGV's new film PHOONK tilts in favour of superstition. Surprising, isn't it? The makers of the film had organized a contest. You'd be given a handsome reward if you've the courage to watch PHOONK all alone in a theatre, we're told. Honestly speaking, PHOONK isn't scary by any standards, but as a subject, it works big time because somewhere deep within us, we've heard of the power of the unknown.
Whether you're superstitious or not, you may've heard tales/experiences concerning jaadu tona. And you're all eyes and ears the moment someone comes up with an alibi.
Write your own movie review of Phoonk PHOONK is easily amongst RGV's finest works (although BHOOTH was scarier) and it holds your attention all through. As a viewer, you're keen to know how RGV would culminate this story. The culmination, of course, would meet with extreme reactions. Some would rubbish it, but the believers might endorse the finale. In my individualistic opinion, it's outstanding! All said, PHOONK is a fantastic experience. The subject -- black magic -- is its biggest star and that alone would ensure House Full boards outside plexes/cinemas.
Rajeev (Sudeep), a successful construction engineer, with a loving wife and two children, is an atheist to the core. He scowls at people who believe in the dark forces, till one day when an evil is let loose in his happy home, which threatens to destroy his family and shake up the very foundations of his convictions and beliefs.
Thanks to the hype and curiosity generated around the movie, you expect to be scared from Scene 1 itself. And RGV emphasises on lighting and artefacts, besides an eccentric woman (Ashwini Kalsekar), to create the right atmosphere.
Of course, you do get the jhatkas in a scene or two, but you don't clasp your hands tightly even once, nor does your heart goes dhak-dhak at a lightening speed. Gradually, RGV plays with the camera (excellent camera-work by Savita Singh) and sound (Kunal Mehta, Parikshit Lalwani) to heighten the impact. Like all RGV films, the camera angles bear the unmistakable RGV stamp, while the background score (Bapi-Tutul) takes an ordinary scene to the next level.
RGV is back with a bang. There's a certain consistency from start to end and this time, he gets the right subject to prove his detractors wrong. Every sequence bears the stamp of a genius that RGV is, hits and flops notwithstanding.
The performances are uniformly good. Sudeep impresses you with an excellent performance. Amruta Khanvilkar is efficient. Baby Ahsaas Channa makes a strong impression. Ashwini Kalsekar is top notch. Zakir Hussain's tantric act is superb. Ganesh Yadav lends good support. K.K. Raina and Lilette Dubey, both doctors, are competent. Kenny Desai, Anu Ansari and the actress enacting the role of Sudeep's mother are perfect.
On the whole, PHOONK is a fascinating cinematic experience on a subject that's rarely tackled by the dream merchants in Bollywood: Black magic. The subject itself is the biggest star of the film, which would ensure a flying start at the box-office and in turn, prove a jackpot for its producers who've distributed the film themselves.

Shaurya: It Takes Courage to Make Right... Right (2008)
nice movie to watch
a movie which could have been much better on the rating scale. the movie starts off slowly and picks up the tempo in the second half. amazing performance by kay kay menon. he steals the show. he proves that being junior in the industry to rahul bose doesn't matter, but better and different acting style matters a lot. rahul bose is up to his usual style which attracts many. minisha lamba is wasted in the movie. many people were left wondering after the movie, why was she in the movie. certain mistakes in army laws and many 'logic' errors in the movie. the movie also talks abt the personal life of an army officer who has been enjoying his life till now. but now he one life to save. overall a nice movie to watch.
Khoya Khoya Chand (2007)
khoya khoya chand.... not so khoya hua
'khoya khoya chand' prooves the amazing skills of the director sudhir mishra. although the writer sudhir mishra may still need to work a bit.
the movie style is amazing. the story being set up in the early 60s is amazinginly displayed using all details of the era. from wooden badminton rackets to clothing...... each detail has been taken care of.
the art direction and special effects also need an applause.
the first half of the movie has great dialogues and great story. the second half seems to be a bit stretched.
after the awesome movie ' hazaron khwaishien aisi', one expected an 'unexpected ending'. although the end could have been arrived earlier than it did, it was still 'unexpected'.
