Bloodlines (2007)
Why oh why?
Why do filmmakers still churn out straight to video garbage like this? This film has some of the worst dialogue I have ever heard. It had me cringing and squirming in my seat.
The film is about a bunch of inbred rednecks (although out of what seems to be about 50 only 2 of them are horribly disfigured) who live in a remote house in the woods. With the help of a local gas station owner they lure girls to the house to fight each other to the death, with the 'winner' going on to be raped by the chief inbred. Doesn't sound too bad a story. But the reality is there is no horror in this film. The fight sequences are very tame (too many broken necks and all too easily, probably to save on sfx budget), the rape scenes are non existent. There is one brief shot of nudity on a dead girl who is quickly covered up, so why one of the plot keywords on here is Female Nudity I can only think is up to the film makers to try and get people to watch this load of tripe!
One of the captured girls' boyfriend and brother (at least I think that's who they are, they insist on calling her 'baby girl' so they could have been her parents for all I know) realise she is missing and have a good idea where she is so they set off in search for her. They seem to have a 6th sense as they pack a load of hunting gear and even maintain that they're going hunting. She could have been in an accident for gods sake! Needless to say they're soon on the trail armed with bow and arrow and knives. They dispatch the inbreds with ease with, as I mentioned before, several broken necks, a couple of arrow injuries and some knife action. The surviving girls escape through a balsa wood door that somehow managed to keep them locked in a room for the first half of the film and meet up with their rescuers. I must mention here that the dialogue between the girl, her boyfriend and brother is awful. She calls one Teddybear all the time and they call her baby girl. Bleaagh! A chase ensues and we see both rescuers downed and 2 women survivors, all very predictable. Then after all the inbreds are dead the 2 rescuers are suddenly alive, amazing! And they all live happily ever after. Awful.
I was so glad when it ended. The only thing that could have possibly saved this load of rubbish was adding more nudity and turning into an exploitation flick complete with inbred rape scenes but the filmmakers didn't and it's dreadful.
Prison of the Psychotic Damned: Terminal Remix (2006)
Some nice scares but sadly lacking
Filmed in an excellently chosen location this could and should have been a very scary movie. What we have instead is a complete mess. Obviously low budget and not the best actors in the world, which isn't a problem, but the plot and story telling are woeful. There are a few scary moments but nothing ties together and the story jumps around all over the place and the film just leaves you feeling like you've missed something. I'm a big fan of low budget horror and have seen many a movie and it isn't hard to put a coherent story together so why they failed so miserably here is anyones guess. The effects are not too bad and the characters (although not developed very well throughout the film) are OK but it is all let down by a mish-mash story and poor direction. 3/10
Unwilling Lovers (1977)
Very sick xxx horror flick!
UNWILLING LOVERS - extremely sick XXX 1975 sex-horror film, starring and Dir. by zebedy colt, of SEX WISH fame! He plays a retarded guy living with his mom and a sex-starved handyman, who begins to go on a gory rape-and-murder spree after having flashbacks about his father's death. He follows young couples to their hideouts, watches them have sex, then attacks and kills them. He also has sex with the female corpses afterwards! Very well-made for a porno film, which plays like a hardcore PSYCHO. Colt is great and chilling as the insane mama's boy, who is dubbed "the candy bar killer" after leaving wrappers at the site of his crimes!
August Underground (2001)
This is one sick puppy.....
I actually obtained a copy of this from a friend who said it was 'something I might like'. I am an avid horror fan so I just assumed it was an old 70's b movie that I hadn't got or something. Oh my, how shocked was I!?
For the first 30-40 minutes I thought this was real. I contemplated turning it off, phoning my friend and asking him where he got this sh!t from, before deciding whether to hand him over to the police. This is amateur horror at it's very best. It cannot be long before Vogel is snapped up to make a 'big' picture, this guy is an evil genius. If you like the extreme side of horror, and I don't mean Scream and Friday the 13th, then you gotta check this out. I cannot recommend it enough.
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986)
A classic piece of horror
There I sat, 5 minutes after the credits had rolled, not able to believe what I had just seen. I eventually got up, rewound the tape and hit play again.
Nope, my eyes didn't deceive me. This truly is the horror genre at it's best. McNaughton is a genius. This film leaves you feeling like someone's just dropped a ton of bricks on your head. Truly disturbing, horrifying and downright disgusting.
Thank god they picked Rooker to play Henry, this has to be his best ever film role.
Even the damn music is excellent (done by McNaughton).
This gets a very rare (from me) 10.
Oh, and avoid Henry 2, it should never have been made.
House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
Still waiting for the next decent horror movie.
This is like Texas Chain Saw Massacre meets Natural Born Killers. Now you may think that doesn't sound such a bad thing but believe me, this movie sucks the proverbial donkey.
Gore ? What gore ? I read a few reviews before I viewed this stinker that seemed to think this was the first genuine gore filled horror movie for the last 10 years. Wrong. It isn't even a horror movie. It's an art film, at best, with little to no gore at all.
I couldn't wait for it to end, and when it did, I felt like I'd just wasted 90 minutes of my life. I haven't felt like that since I watched Batman. Steer well clear.
Ginî piggu 2: Chiniku no hana (1985)
Gore Galore...
This film when viewed on an old vhs tape is really very convincing. Hardly any dialogue spoken and just lashings of the old ultra violence. A girl is kidnapped and tied to a table then a guy in samurai gear proceeds to hack her to bits.
Then out comes the DVD release with a good quality picture and the effect kind of gets lost. It's looks quite phoney and takes away a bit of the "is it real ?, isn't it real?" factor of watching on low quality video.
If you're into gore movies, watch it on video first, then catch it on dvd if you can, just to see how all the effect were done (theres a making of documentary on the DVD).
