Blue Eye Samurai (2023)
Very good
"Blue Eye Samurai" seems to be a flawless synthesis of the past and the present. At first, the animation here seems to adhere to the recognizable features of something simple and understandable from the beloved and eye-pleasing cartoons of the 2000s, but at the same time, the creators enthusiastically involve interesting features of modern cartoon flavor into their animated cinematography. The story about revenge, lonely samurai and their adventures at first also seems to be a hackneyed relic of the past, but add to this the half-breed main character, who is experiencing not only a crisis of self-identification, but also stuck in the ups and downs of searching for their place in the world that they hate, and now you are entering the territory of topical crises. And this is only a small part of the overall mosaic, masterfully combining the best of two worlds - past and present.
This animated series is truly amazing and positively delightful. It is impossible to take your eyes off it. First of all, the artstyle is a visual feast for the eyes. Every frame is a beautiful piece of art or an impressive picture that you want to frame and place on your desktop. Secondly, a catchy multi-layered narrative that holds attention until the very end. Thirdly, the setting of snow-covered Japan in the 17th century is absolutely captivating in its expressiveness and versatility. Fourthly, an amazing cinematic production, simulating all these dynamic camera shots, one-shot scenes, colorful panoramic landscapes. The amount of effort that was put into this piece of art is astounding!
