Making the Grade (1984)
Best 80's Comedy of All Time.
For anyone who was alive and well in the 80's this movie is the funniest of all time. Of course you might need to remember the Preppy Handbook, putting pennies in your shoes (or coins from other countries if you wanted to be really cool), nicknames like Bif, Kiki and Buffy, and men wearing pink and yellow.
The star of this movie is the REAL Palmer Woodrow, Dana Olsen. It is a shame it doesn't look like he is still in the business.
The character of Rand is well played and is very, very funny.
Andrew Dice Clay, Gordon Jump and Judd Nelson all put in solid performances.
I have this on DVD...it is great.
I really wish they made Tourista. That would have been excellent.
28 Days Later... (2002)
The First Half Is Amazing
Like most good, but not great movies, the writer had a wonderful and unique idea for a movie. Like all good, but not great, movies the second half suffers from a loss of direction.
The first half of this movie was brilliant, and quite possibly one of the best beginnings ever to a movie. The way this movie is shot gives you chills from the first scene. The action is terrific, the direction was superb and the dialogue was natural. The violence, in terms of a supernatural movie, was necessary and realistic. Then.....
The second half of this movie loses it's way and loses it big time. The point is good, the idea was decent, the execution was terrible. The point is this ... is existing really living. The answer is no, and the movie shows us that. Question: do we really need to learn that? Short answer is no. If done well it could have been good, but done like this it is slightly ridiculous.
Hannibal (2001)
Spooky, but unsatisfying...
I thought the movies was good, and it will definitely creep you out if you watch it with the lights out and no one else around. Other than that it falls a bit flat. Upon reflection the saddest part about the movie is the constant attempts at shock value and the paper thin plot. No one does anything for any real reason, which is the strangest part, except Hannibal.
Also, Hannibal is the only character that is cool, funny, and dare I say, human. All the other characters seem more like caricatures, and Moore was terrible as Agent Starling.
This movie got 6 stars JUST for Anthony Hopkins and he is certainly the best part about the film. He makes you forget that the plot goes no where and after 2 1/2 hours the movie was no closer to resolving itself than it was in the beginning. Sadly, Hannibal Lecture is going to be the next Freddy or Jason, lets just hope he continues to be exciting and witty as he has been in these two movies.
The Hotel New Hampshire (1984)
THE SINGLE WORST MOVIE EVER!
I can actually promise you that there has never been a worse film ever made in the history of film! Rob Lowe trying to act, incest, gang rape, a farting dog, death, all in one film! I swear to you this movie sucks. Please don't watch it. It is horrible.
