The Tutor (2023)
1/10
Not even hilariously bad. Pull your hair out bad yes
11 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
What in the world was this??? No character acted in any sort of rational way the entire film. Like at all. I don't even know where to begin. He gets drugged and ends up at the bottom of a lake and after he goes home and says, "ugh that was annoying, I think somethings up with this kid" . And then the wife gets mad at him??? How dare you miss out appointment.

The problem lies that we have no back story at all to who this tutor guy is. They sprinkle in back story here and there but you're so lost that it doesn't matter. What kind of tutoring company is this? Is this tutor guy good at his job...like I assumed he was really smart or something, but he acts like an idiot the whole time?

I legit don't understand what the hell was going on at all. I hate this movie. I hate everyone involved.

a TRUE underdog story with no fairy tale ending
20 April 2023
I absolutely adore this movie. First off,, obviously this is Margot Robbies coming out party. She's an A+. Its her movie and she delivers. The characters are so unique and interesting and....true? Even if its only 90% true, wow. I love the formula with the faux docu style. I love the mix of drama, comedy, and raw, yet not boring style

But mostly I love that Hollywood told a true underdog story for once. A girl who never got a fair chance despite being the best due to ther bad luck of upbringing. The quote about society became her final abuser. Boom. I love that. Our progressive culture for some reason dismisses "hicks" or people from poor backgrounds and I think that's a shame.

Tonya got screwed and I love a movie that doesn't give us a happy ending.

Eh. Autobiography is Oversimplified. Skims over biggest moments

Warning: Spoilers
It sounds like the Brooke shields story is definitely one deserved to be told. Staring in a bunch of controversial movies as a kid, becoming an icon in the 80s and 90s, and then semi fizling out kd the limelight. Toss in an over bearing, wild mother agent and this story has it all.

But since it's in Brooke Shields words, everything seems like everyone else's fault, she glosses over the most intriguing things like a) who raped you???? B) what was the real story behind mjax c) the agassi marriage ended so abruptly d) you fired your mother?? Id love to hear what others have to say about a lot of these stories and just her best friends.

It was a nice trip down memory lane, that's for sure. I also think Brooke Shields seems like a great person and I applaud the fact she didn't 100% turn herself into some sobbing victim story. She seemed to have taken most of her life in stride and I think thats awesome of her.

What a waste of talent
3 February 2023
Wow this was unbelievably bad. I thought the intro and set up was good. I knew who was in this, so I was thinking, okay good set up, good premise, good cast...here we go, this could be a pleasant surprise! This was the exact definition of cringe. It was some bad combination of cliche rom-com, cliche meet the parents, and cliche "o no, the white person said the word 'brotha' in front of a black person, HOW AWKWARD HA HA HA?" If you think people being uncomfortable is gold comedy, then You People is your movie.

Another thing that hurts this movie is making the entire cast successful and rich....honestly, it takes away from the comedy. Jonah Hill feeling like "no one gets him", as he's eating in his 10million dollar home...you're making him not relatable, at all.

Maybe a little too much "soap opera" twists; but incredibly engaging
27 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First off the acting was out of this world, top notch. Legit every performance was impressive. Secondly, the scenery and overall atmosphere of Georgia/America in the 40s/50s was superb. I like movies that make you immersed in the age and atmosphere of a movie and Perry crushed it.

I know other movies have done it better but I also felt like this was one of the more in your face movies about the south/usa was in this fairly modern time. The best aspect was when you had our main character as this big time performer in Chicago, with an entirely black ensemble, in a city that's considered progressive or "not as bad as the south"...yet its for white people only. A way to make them feel slightly better about themselves. Im sure some would make fun at me or poke holes in this, but this was a great concept to show the audience.

Anyways, now was there a few too many soap opera twists and turns? I think so. Doped up brother. Evil father. Not the biological son. Rapey grandpa. Greedy mother. Just a little too overstuffed to a point where you don't get to enjoy really any of the movie. Its just horror after horror after horror...which is fine since it was a horrible time but you just feel super super icky when its over.

I was thoroughly into all of it though. One of the better Netflix movies in a while (which isn't saying anything)

Very very very average. Felt kinda like no one was really trying
12 August 2022
It's one of those comedy plots that kinda writes itself and this production sorta feels like everyone assumed the same. Ben Stiller is essentially playing the camp counselor from heavyweights and Vince Vaughn is playing someone that "couldn't care less" (and it shows and hurts the movie).

The jokes seem obvious, shoe horned, and forced.

Now it's still amusing because there's a lot of talent involved. But it seems like Vince Vaughn was finally beginning to lose his luster.

Works as a comedy and/or torture
4 August 2022
Comical survival movie thats 95% flashbacks. Repetitive, boring, over and over and over again flashbacks. We GET IT, by God, we get it. Bi polar mom, sick dad, and workaholic.

I'm glad to know next time I go camping, a handful of blueberries, a cork/needle, and an empty bottle to get water sometimes is all I need.

It's a Fun, Great Premise for a Comedy. Great Cast. But very average script
18 July 2022
In the end it's just not very funny....but that doesn't make it bad by any means. You got a truly A+ cast for this thing. The budget is there. The pacing is there. I read on the trivia that this was originally going to be more sci-fi thriller based, well, I think that would've been the better approach (with some humor sprinkled in). I wish movies like this were made still but overall it's a very average script.

Copy/paste formula. It's the 'bohemian rhapsody' of drugs films
18 April 2022
It's either a film student who watched a bunch of drug/biopic epic films or a film studio who said "those movies make money so lets just do that and not try".

It's extremely cheezy. Every line sounds like something written purposely for a movie trailer. Even Depp seemed like he was phoning it in. Don't waste your time. This is a skip.

Had potential but overall kinda boring/trash
13 January 2022
I think they had something here with this noir/softcore porn/on purpose trash film.... but it just doesn't stick. Once you grasp that there's going go be a lot of twists, they get less interesting each time. They get very eye rolly. Denise Richards being hot, only goes so far.

Not bad other than kate bosworth awful acting
12 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Overall. A pretty typical, decent little horror flick. Easy, basic premise that does what it's supposed to do. The only issue is Kate Bosworth is awful in this. Did the director tell her "okay, same expression..whole movie...go"? It doesn't matter whats happening in the movie...her eating toast, her husband getting eaten by clay monster, driving to the bank, seeing a woman spiderwebbed dead against the wall. Doesn't matter to this woman. All the same to her. She walks in the entire movie not afraid and it goes away from the entire movie. Such a shame.

Funnier every time I watch it!
9 November 2021
Every single scene and line is a joke. While it's all the same level of joke, they all still get a big laugh out of me. The set pieces are all vibrant and interesting. The actors are all high level icons. Putting the kids in summer camp is genius. I've watched this like, 30 times, and it still cracks me up.

Are all the bad reviews the same guy?
10 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Ummm people aren't stupid. No one thinks Poland was responsible for the death camps. They were just showing a modern geographical representation of where the camps were located.

Great documentary that doesn't give away an agenda or show its hand. The best documentaries are the ones where you dont know what side to take until the end.

My only question about the entire case is... where was dumonyuk during the war. Simply if you're not ivan, where were you from 1937-1945. Such a simple question. He states he was a POW, so I guess that means be was fighting for the russian army or he was taken hostage or.

Too long. Just a cop/investigative movie.
25 September 2019
Episode 1 is powerful, amazing stuff. The last episode has closure and some nice moments too. Literally everything else is skippable. The show should have been JUST Marie. That's all I cared about, but even that story got repetitive with little follow up. Thought this was one of the more disappointing netflix shows so far
