New Girl (2011)
this is so bad, i wanted to like it but...
First off, I love Zooey Deschanel, so I was really looking forward to this airing. I've seen her in a few movies and she's always been a great supporting actress. Perhaps she cannot pull off a leading actress role. Even her acting in this series is terrible. I was so disappointed after the first episode. Even more surprising was the rave reviews it was receiving. So I thought, OK maybe I missed something. I tried to watch the second episode but i felt like i was insulting my intelligence and had to change the channel. I think Zooey should stick to the big screen.
The entire storyline is beyond ridiculous, I cannot relate to anything in it.
The only thing funny about this show is that they are still on the air.
Suburgatory (2011)
Two Thumbs up
I enjoy this show. It has a lot of interesting characters. It's a bit of Desperate Housewives meets Mean Girls.
I can relate to this as I am a city gal myself who moved to the burbs with my single dad in high school. Just him and I. So I get this situation completely. I think its refreshing to do a comedy about it.
Jeremy Sisto is wonderful. (as always!) The young lady that plays his daughter is a great little actress as well. The "fake mom" becomes a lovable character and has more heart than you expect. The dentist friend is hilarious....
The only negative thing i can say about this show is that the daughter is so mature for her age that if you do not watch this regularly you might think they are husband and wife. I did not notice this as much as my husband did. When I reminisce about my own situation I do recall that in high school people who did not know me would assume that my dad, who was a handsome man as well, was my boyfriend. I know, yuck. He would drop me off at high school in the burbs in his nice car and some mean girls would tease, don't you think he's a bit old for you and my standard come back was, ya, he's old enough to be my dad. This would make their mouths drop and I had to have fun with that.
Eventually they would find out the truth and when they did it actually made me quite popular. The rumour mill in the burbs.
Rules of Engagement (2007)
I like this one a lot
Most of the negative comments seem to be about Patrick Warburton's role as Jeff. I guess if you were not a Puddy fan from Seinfeld then perhaps you would not appreciate him. Even the diner they eat in reminds me of the diner in Seinfeld. The way they seem to always eat in the coffee shop though, I have never understood that, in Seinfeld or this show. This must be a New York thing... I think Patrick Warburton is hilarious in his role as Jeff, a loving husband, in his own way, a real mans man...
And surely David Spade is too old to be trolling for young girls, that is exactly the point.
I like the entire cast of characters. Oliver Hudson, so hot yet coming across as so gay with a beautiful fiancée to boot. They appear to be the perfect, happy engaged couple. Audrey and Jeff as the stable old married couple. I think I relate to them the most.
I hope this one lasts as long as Seinfeld.
Modern Family (2009)
As its title implies, its Modern Family
I love this show. Its well done and I really look forward to it. Its refreshing. Its great for all generations and its just not a family show, you do not have to have "kids" to get it. You just have to have a family to appreciate how very different every family is even within your own extended family. They put the fun in dysfunctional for sure.
I love how the Dunphys do their candid interview on the couch every episode. Kinda like Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
Every role is well acted and all the characters are lovable in their own way.
I hope this one lasts a long time too.
Whitney (2011)
wow, totally surprised how many of you hate this show
are any of you in a relationship? if you were you might see the humour. i think its witty and fun. the supporting characters are great too, we all have these kinda people in our lives, you gotta love the drunk single girl or the pervert single guy in a position of power, the perfect couple...
even my husband, who in the beginning I had to practically beg for him to watch with me tried not to like this but it the end he couldn't help himself... sure there's the corny laugh track, who cares.
this show is a bright spot after a dark day. its a little like will and grace without the gays. this is one of our favourite new comedy shows of the season...and that list is pretty short...
