first post-revolutionary fairy tale

For 20 years I have been waiting for a Romanian movie that I could actually enjoy. Don't get me wrong, I am not about to comment from an advised point of view the post-revolutionary Romanian cinematography - I am sure it is of great value, but I have simple tastes - I like emotions and I like beauty wherever I can find it. Seeing this movie I was moved to tears by its simple yet very clever story, nice decent humor and lovely settings. And hearing again my lovely language - I cannot tell you what it felt like - no swearing, no ugly words, just pure poetry. THANK YOU. This last part of my message is addressed to the administrator of the IMDb site. I must say I am not particularly pleased with this rule that states that our comments must be at least 10 rows long. Comments should be as lengthy as they must be, I see no reason why I should invent things just to get published.

how to mess up a perfect "Bond-movie" wanna-be

Here's the recipe: you take a lousy story that has been done a million times, you invite 3-4 brilliant actors to make an appearance so that you get more money to waste on stupid action sequences and more people in theaters, you cast a blond 15 years-old chick-magnet in the main part, you use a lot of bad makeup, blow up some things, pretend not to know that in fact the uncle is not dead (after all, there must be a sequel where the two of them will win together the fight against bad people...). And if that's not enough, you use up all the clichés the American movie industry has come up with in the last two decades. The worst action movie I saw in a very long time. And to think it took three countries to come up with this! (Germany, USA, UK). Soundtrack was nice though.

You Are So Beautiful (2005)

a nice surprise

I hadn't expect to like this movie. It deals with things from my country I desperately wanted to escape from - lack of money, desperation, the small price a woman can ask for herself. And I hadn't really liked a Romanian movie eversince I was a child and I was watching silly communist movies. But this movie had good credentials and people close to me had enjoyed it, so when I had the chance I watched it, first with prejudiced disgust, then with interest and at the end with emotion. It is a lovely movie, about not so lovely people that in the end turn out to be just fabulous. It is the first movie about ugly Romania that I actually enjoyed watching. I am grateful for that.
