Each series starts off with 8 BBQ chefs who are all at least quite good and in every episode they must complete a challenge and at the end of every episode the judges choose a winner who should win a prize but doesn't and a loser who goes home. But there is a big prize of 50,000 dollars for the winner of the last episode which does make the competition exciting.
The main reason why I enjoyed this show is because almost every episode has a completely unique challenge. For example in one episode the chefs have to cook with chillis and make their own hot sauce. This challenge is particularly difficult for some of the chefs because some of them don't like spicy foods and are quite unfamiliar with using these ingredients. In another episode we see the chefs having to cook for 50 people and I hope I get to see more episodes in future where they have to cook for large groups. And also in quite a few other episodes we see the chefs cooking on open fires (again I hope I get to see more of this in the next series) and using unique cooking methods from countries like Argentina and Japan. These unique cooking methods and the cooking facts that pop up on the screen also made me walk away from the show not only feeling we entertained but also like I had learnt something.
The judges are also choosen wisely in this show because unlike some cooking shows on Netflix they are talented chefs who know how to judge the different tastes and textures of every delicious looking dish. On the other hand, the judges don't always agree on things like who will go home and this makes the competition seem a bit unfair because in one episode when they can't decide, the bottom two chefs start the next episode by going head to head in a fun BBQ Breakfast challenge, but in another episode where they can't decide both of the people at the bottom just go through to the next episode.
I also didn't like the hosts because they have very little cooking knowledge and try to tell a lot of jokes that don't land. Although, despite these bad hosts I found this show a joy to watch and I look forward to the next series.
