Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Very heavy on the irony...I loved it!
some of the lines in this film were laugh out loud funny! Obi-wan Kenobi: Anikan, why do I get the feeling you'll be the death of me?" Everyone in the theater laughed at that line. I enjoyed this Movie alot. Corusont was a lot like a futuristic Los Angeles, complete with a 50's style diner and cocktail waitresses! the car chase was very impressive, one of the most breathtakingly beautiful sequences in the whole saga. excitement started to grow in me, watching Anikan and Padme's romance blossom, because we were witnessing the begaining of the Skywalker Family, and hearing the imperial march again was a real treat. and it's just been confirmed that James Earl Jones will return in episode three as Darth Vader! I'm looking forward to it. I think that they should bring the original trilogy back to theaters when that happens, as well as release it on DVD. starwars deserves to be appreciated by a whole new generation
Scrooged (1988)
Funny and heartwarming-a true Christmas Classic
This movie makes me laugh every time I see it. as with all Christmas Movies, it is best seen around Christmas time, of coarse. The story is based on A christmas Carol, but the main character played by Bill Murrey is the president of a television broadcast company. The story is like the Christmas Carol, loosely, but the ending has one extra elemant that makes it an even better ending than any other Christmas Carol Movie. This film is one of Bill Murrey's best, and definately takes it's place alongside "It's a wonderful life" and "Christmas Vacation" as a true Christmas Classic
Salute Your Shorts (1991)
Nickelodeon Stinks!
Just when a Nickelodeon Show gets great, Nickelodeon cuts it off and replaces it with a dumb Cartoon. great shows like "Pete and Pete" "Clarrisa" and "Salute your shorts" are replaced with such dung-piles like rugrats and spongebob. I stopped watching Nickelodeon entirely when they canceled their last half-decant show, "Space Cases"
Christmas Every Day (1996)
A Groundhog Day for the Christmas Season
This show was never meant to be original. The producers decided to take the "Groundhog Day" formula and use it for the Christmas season. I thought this Christmas special was very good, even better than "Groundhog Day". The relationship Between Billy and Diane was more believable than the one in "Groundhog Day". In this Movie, Billy doesn't "step on the gas" so quickly. he just tries to get her to notice him, and they start a friendship. It is far less contrived then the Romance in "Groundhog Day" where the two Characters fall in love in ONE DAY. I also like the Christmas Pagent scenes, and I also like it when Billy always wakes up to "Jingle Bells" and the various expressions on his face. They should put this one out on video.
Fantasia (1940)
inspiring
One of the few good things about "Fantasia 2000" is that after I saw it, it compelled me to dig out the original Fantasia and watch it again. I fell in love with it all over again. When I first saw it in 1990 at its theatrical re-release, I was only 8 years old. Ten years later, in 2000, I had taken up the violin and I was about to graduate from high school. Watching this film with a new appreciation for classical music that I didn't have in 1990, this film inspired me to stick with the violin and pursue a music major. Another thing that changed when I watched it again in 2000, was my view on the final segment, Night on Bald Mountain and Ave Maria. Today it is my favorite segment of Fantasia. Fantasia's presentation of "Ave Maria" is one of the most spiritually uplifting endings in the history of cinema. The music in this segment is just gorgeous. It showed me that music can have an impact and that it is just as important as any other form of entertainment.
Of coarse, it wouldn't be fair not to list some of the other highlights of this film. Highlights include J.S. Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D minor" which shows off the orchestra and then dissolves into an abstract dream with flashes of light and flying bows and quaking landscapes, Beethoven's "Pastoral symphony" which is a pretty accurate perception of Greek Mythology, except for the centaurettes. Those are purely Disney's idea. Then we have "The Dance of the Hours" Fantasia's funniest and second-most famous (next to the `Sorcerer's Apprentice') this segment features dancing hippos, elephants, ostriches and alligators throughout the coarse of a day from morning to the afternoon, then into the evening and night. This is shown through some very beautiful animation. Sense I was only 8 when I saw this the first time, I was mainly focusing on the cartoon part of it, and the quality of animation made me think it was a new release, and not a 50 year old classic.
Forget Fantasia 2000. This movie is the real deal. Read my review of Fantasia 2000 to see what I am talking about.
Star Trek: Voyager (1995)
it was a good show(warning: this review reviels key plot points of the show)
Star Trek Voyager was a good show, Most of the time. The main thing that made this show different from "Gilligan's Island" is that they didn't spend every week trying to get rescued. In fact, the majority of Star Trek: Voyager's episodes didn't really focus on their predicament, and those that did, the majority of those episodes were handled nicely and didn't get contrived.
There are three low points to this show, the first two being the 2nd and 5th seasons. The third point I'll get to later.
The 2nd season was the darkest season of Star Trek: Voyager because it featured "the crew that luck forgot". Janeway would activate the self-destruct sequence at the first sign of an alien intrusion, along with tedious encounters with the Kazon, a race bent on stealing their technology. The season ended on a cliffhanger with the entire crew stranded on a desert planet.
Then in the third season, things started to pick up. Tom Paris And Be'lanna Torres' relationship begins, which would ultimately lead to their marriage in the 7th season. The doctor's program starts to degrade and becomes unable to perform his medical duties. The only solution is to reset his program, yet he is reluctant to go back to the way he was when he was first activated.
In the fourth season, Voyager rescues Seven of nine from the Borg Collective, and thus begins janeway's struggle to return Seven to Humanity.
Then in the 5th season, the show changed hands and the show took a turn for the worse. Janeway turned into a discriminating hard-***: "Harry's an ensign. He doesn't have the right to question my orders." or "the doctor isn't real. I have every right to tamper with his program"
Then when the ship encounters the Equinox, another ship brought into the delta quadrant who had been killing life forms to speed it's journey home, Janeway almost kills one of the crewmen out of anger.
The 6th and seventh seasons were better. They had some of the better episodes of the show, such as "barge of the dead" and "Pathfinder" And the final shot of the series was the Federation Starfleet escorting Voyager back to earth.
The third low point of the series was the 4th season episode "Mortal Coil". it's the one where Neelix Dies and is revived, but he has no memory of the afterlife that he so very believed in. I'm a very religious Person, and I took this episode as an insult to my faith, especially due to the fact that it aired one week before Christmas. But fortunately, this episode was undone in the 6th season episode "barge of the dead", where Be'lanna goes to Klingon Hell to appeal for her family's Salvation.
Blazing Saddles (1974)
Mel Brook's best. Hands Down.
this movie is one of the funniest movies in history! the racist jokes are cancled out because the people who say them come off as idiots! harvey Korman put in a good performance as Hedy(That's Hedley!) Lamarr, and Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder Kept the movie going and the message of the movie was clear: Jim(people call him Jim) was the first one to accept Bart for what he was. and the ending was hilarious! this is mel brook's best film, without a doubt.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
Give Lake Lloyd a break, already!
I was not annoyed by Jake Lloyd's childish portrayal of Anikan. you know why? because that is exactly what I expected! He's a kid! of coarse he's not going to do it perfectly or to everyone's personal specifications. People Bad-mouthing Children actors have prevented really great movies Like The Mummy Returns and Star Wars: Episode One from getting the ratings they deserve. How would you feel if you did something you really put your heart into and somebody Bad-mouthed you and called you terrible just because it wasn't done the way they like it?
This Movie was O.K. I liked it because it was the set up for the Starwars trilogy. I liked all the action, The lightsaber duels, and It was fun pointing out the similarities and plot holes which would undouptebly be explained later. I did not let Anikan or "Jar Jar Binks" keep me from enjoying this movie. after all. if you don't like it, you can do something else: read a book, plant a tree, take a walk...
The Mummy (1999)
the sequel is Much Better.
On the audio commentary by Stephen summers, he remarks that they're halfway into the movie and they have yet to re-introduce the title character, and he isn't even revived for another 20 minutes. A good chunk of this movie deals with them digging around an ancient city and discovering things. therefore, this movie gets a little boring, and actually, having seen the Mummy Returns FIRST, I was dissapointed on how Evelyn's character was portrayed in this Movie. In the Mummy Returns, she's a strong, sword-wielding Kick-ass who's able to take care of herself. in the Mummy, she's portrayed as a clumsy cliched damsel in distress. And with the Mummy Returns, the ending had me cheering in my seat, The Mummy left me saying "oh WOW." (heavy sarcasm here) There's even one line in this movie that sums it all up: "rescue the Damsel in distress, Kill the Bad Guy, Save the world."
Tetris Worlds (2001)
easy to learn, hard to put down!
This game is absolutely the best version of Tetris there is. With beautiful graphics, classic Tetris Music and Seven Variations of the game, this cartridge will keep you entertained for hours!
