I, Robot (2004)
Bad Acting, Bad Script, Good Story, Good Themes
I thoroughly enjoyed "I, Robot". It is an interesting mix of the "what-if" scenario, along with subtle hints of human faults and the debate over artificial intelligence.
Will Smith, for acting as the main character, does not do a fantastic job in this film, but it is passable. Many of the other actors in the film are hard to watch. For instance, Bridget Moynahan is absolutely awful. Alan Tudyk's personification of Sonny is believable at first, but then goes downhill when he starts talking like a human.
The script is poorly written. Jeff Vintar and Akiva Goldsman are not the best screenwriters the world has ever seen. However, the story is set firmly and they stick to it, making it a decent movie to watch.
The main theme in the movie are quite prevalent: robots (aka computers, phones, cars, etc.) are not human and should not be left to make human decisions, such as rescuing a person from a car crash. The films conclusion is predictable yet necessary, and brings the movie full circle.
I would recommend this movie. It is not a bad movie, but it is not one I would demand every person in the world to see before they die. I give it 6 stars out of 10.
Halloween (1978)
The halloween night classic!
John Carpenter's Halloween is a classic for the ages. Every Halloween night, it is played throughout TV stations such as AMC and TCM. This is because Halloween is the greatest slasher horror movie ever made.
John Carpenter's use of POV shots, dark sets, and Donald Pleasance, combine to create a masterpiece of horror. Carpenter used no blood or gore, instead relying on the approach of gut-wrenching suspense and eerie music.
The acting in this movie, sadly, is not strong, said for Donald Pleasance's Dr. Loomis. Jamie Lee Curtis does an impressive job for her first role, however, and the two carry the movie to the standard that it is held.
Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Not Irving's Story
I am a great fan of Washington Irving's classic scary story, but I was surprised to see that it was being made into a full-length movie, because the actual book is under 150 pages. Watching it, I expected to see a timid, superstitious schoolmaster named Ichabod Crane. However, I am displeased to find it is a constable sent from New York to investigate murders. This is simply laughable. Johnny Depp's performance was mediocre; it was simply Jack Sparrow in 17th century New York. However, this movie did have some good parts. First off, the setting and set creation was extraordinary. The eerily creepy Sleepy Hollow was exactly the way Washington Irving imagined it. The costumes were great. And although I do hate Kevin Yagher for ruining the plot of the story, the dialogue was believable and well-written. Tim Burton did not disappoint with his direction, although some scenes could have been better. All in all, if you are a fan of the book, you will not be seeing the original story. Just a terrible rip-off involving a legendary character, the Headless Horseman (who looked incredible).
Crusoe (2008)
God-awful acting
Stuck at home on a Friday night, I saw a trailer for this way back in the summer and thought "oh this is gonna be sweet!!!!" so I popped the popcorn and began to watch it. The second the character Robinson Crusoe started talking, I thought "What the hell? Is that supposed to be a British accent?" Phillip Winchester did terrible, I thought, and the Friday character wasn't very interesting either. The pirates sucked. In all, the acting is god-awful. I felt like the whole time i wanted to just scream at them to get off the set. Hopefully, throughout the season, the acting and the plot will be more sophisticated and enjoyable.
Semi-Pro (2008)
Awful...to say the least
I rented this movie recently because I am a fan of Will Ferrell (loved him in "Talladega Nights" and "Blades of Glory") and because I wanted to prove everyone that it wasn't such a bad movie after all. However, within the first opening scenes, i realized this movie was nothing more than Will Ferrell trying to be funny. It wasn't all him, though. The script was a piece of crap. Whoever thought this movie would make money and make audiences laugh was clearly impaired. It is definitely not funny, and certainly not worth paying for. If you are like me, and want to give it a shot, don't. It is a terrible piece of worthless crap that Will Ferrell should have never signed on to. Hopefully, the movie "Step Brothers" will take this off of Ferrell's now tarnished list of movies.
Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005)
Good plot & characters = Good Show
I stopped watching Nick cause they started putting all these crap lousy shows on. Then, i turned on my TV to Nick one day and saw this little jewel. Oh my god! What a great show! I never thought Nick could make a good show since the classic 90's, but I was wrong. The plot is just genius, with the nations, and I find the backstories of the Nations intriguing. Also, the characters are fascinating and enjoyable. Aang, Soka, and Katara all have different personalities, which sometimes mesh and sometimes don't, which makes the story good. *SPOILER* And I simply cannot wait for when Katara and Aang start their relationship...or wait!!! Will they ever?!? !?!!?!? Nobody knows, because that is how great the show is!!! It keeps you guessing. *SPOILER END*
Great show! I would definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone. Even if you think you won't like it, just try it out. Its a great show. Keep it up Nick!
Cloverfield (2008)
Good movie..but the film type takes away from the story
I went to see Cloverfield the day it came out. Just like "I am Legend", its trailers were shown all over TV and the internet. It was almost impossible not to see it. I go with my friends and we get in the movie. The beginning begins with the characters getting ready for a man's going-away- party (it was hard to remember their names, as it was very fast paced). Well, this thing attacks and they're stuck in the middle of it. So this thing just starts coming at everything and destroys New York. Then, it starts dropping these little monster things and they start attacking people. They attack one of the group's friends and she eventually has to be killed...but why???? It doesn't explain anything...i mean nothing. It doesn't say why, it doesn't say how....nothing. So if you've been reading this than you're probably thinking "wow this movie must suck". Not quite, i liked it...except for that it didn't explain anything. The story was great, and I liked the Blair- Witch type filmography. But with doing it like that, they have to drop elements of the story. If you did not like how the Blair Witch was filmed, then you probably will not like Cloverfield.
Jurassic Park (1993)
the perfect film
Well, Steven Spielberg dazzles us again with Jurassic Park (1993). First off, the story is great. I think this is the best movie you can see that features dinosaurs. Better yet, they look real!!! Instead of making robots for the film, they used cutting-edge computer technology to create dinosaurs that don't look like puppets. Congratulations to the technology. Also, the cast performed excellent. Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and others (even Samuel L. Jackson!) performed almost perfectly. Even the minor characters (Bob Peck, B.D. Wong, Wayne Knight) did a great job. It seems that Universal and Spielberg have made.....the perfect film!!!!! Steven Spielberg is just a genius............i mean my god!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not many people could come up and direct something as hard as this. The story, i think, would have sold the movie even without the perfect technology, perfect acting, etc. Anyway, i strongly recommend Jurassic Park, and even its sequels. Although it is not the same as the book, Jurassic Park does deliver.
