Max Manus (2008)
If you're Norwegian and don't watch this at the cinema then you're an idiot
This is a rare opportunity for any Norwegian, to finally see a great solid NORWEGIAN World War II-film on the big screen.
Sure, there have been plenty of WWII-movies made in Norway, especially back in the 1950s (one of them, "Ni liv", was even nominated for the foreign film Oscar), but this is the first one to have the same look and feel of those big foreign studio movies with a massive budget and first rate actors. And the best thing is that it works, on EVERY level!!! I laughed and I cried, amazing! "De dødes tjern" (Lake of the Dead) used to be my favorite Norwegian film but now I'm not so sure anymore!
Villmark (2003)
Really scary
This is one of the coolest horror-movies I've seen in a long time, and what makes it even more great is that it's NORWEGIAN! I don't know how many horror-movies that have been made in the history of Norway but it can't be much more than three (!) all together, so who would have expected this one to be not only creepy, but even downright scary - at times it had me almost freaking out it was that scary!
This movie will do for forests what "Jaws" did for the ocean!
If you missed it on the big screen, get the DVD, turn of the lights and enjoy...
MOAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA...
Minority Report (2002)
Blew me away!
This movie rocked!
It has to be the most credible portrayal of the future I have EVER seen. Forget Blade Runner and 2001!
And on top of that it's packed with excitement and action all the way! I can't wait to see it again! AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!
Den store fisketuren (2002)
entertaining
I will admit i'm not the biggest fan of Per Ståle Lønning. I think he has made a joke of himself through some stupid talk-shows, but finally it looks like he has found his place in life! He surprised me by showing of a charming, unpredictable sense of humor. So the serious journalist Per Ståle Lønning is nothing but a prankster trapped in an old mans body! I laughed out loud when they are in Africa and whaler Steinar Bastesen is talking about what caliber rifle he would use to eliminate all the elephants in the background! Hysterically funny! For once I actually hope Per Ståle returns with more of the same.
Borettslaget (2002)
Hail to the king baby!
Robert Stoltenberg proves his sensational talent for comedy and acting as he plays more than half-a-dozen characters in this mockumentary TV-show about a neighbourhood in Oslo, Norway.
It turned Stoltenberg into a major star, having 25% of the nation sitting up at 22:30 at night to watch this show on a thursday night!
Most people seem to love Stoltenberg's finnish character Piirka (who can't hold a job for a day before he's fired) but I think his real brilliance is shown when he plays the dad AND the son in a pakistani family!
And what's great about the whole thing is that Stoltenberg portrays all his characters with love and care. A brilliant comedy-show kids, parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents can enjoy! Now how often do you see that? This week the entire show comes out on DVD and VHS here in Norway! CAN'T WAIT TO GET MY COPY OF IT! :)
Elling (2001)
Per Christian Ellefsen rules!
He is so great in the part of Elling that I demand success in Hollywood for this man!!! Why must Hollywood always use swedish actors when there are some talented also in the rest of Scandinavia??!! :( Hopefully they will get their eyes open for Per Christian Ellefsen who after this is one my favorite actors in the world!
Ocean's Eleven (2001)
The Cool Bunch
I worship Steven Soderbergh, I love George Clooney and Andy Garcia, and I dig Brad Pitt and Don Cheadle. I'm also a sucker for old stars like Elliott Gould (I loved him in CAPRICORN ONE) and Carl Reiner. So I guess there was no chance in Hell I would hate this movie. And I didn't!
This is one of the greatest pieces of light-hearted cinematic entertainment I've seen in ages. More of this, please!
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
One of the best!!!
I can hardly believe it, but this is truly one of the best STAR WARS-movies! It kicks PHANTOM MENACE's butt from here to kingdom come!
It is loaded with more action than any other STAR WARS-movie and even better: all of them have a purpose! This isn't just action-scenes for the sake of making an action-scene, all action-scenes here have a function of pushing the story one more step into it's fantastic finale with it's now legendary duel between Christopher Lee and Yoda!!! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! As the entire STAR WARS-saga goes only EMPIRE STRIKES BACK is in the league of ATTACK OF THE CLONES!
Can't wait for the DVD so I can finally enjoy the real digital wizardry of this modern classic!
Flåklypa Grand Prix (1975)
my all-time favorite family movie!
I love this movie, like most norwegians. Still after all these years watching this movie again and again I still can barely believe it's norwegian! It's just TOO good to be true! Without a doubt one the greatest animated movies in the international history of movies! Too bad it contains so many internal references to norwegian characters and surroundings as these jokes then will be somewhat lost to foreigners, but there's still lots and lots left. This also has my favorite movie-line ever: "Jasså, døk sitt og glor?" :) (it looses a lot when translated)
It was sooo sad when Ivo Caprino died, who created this. Maybe, just maybe his son will be crazy enough to make a sequel 30 years later??? I wish!
