Reacher (2022– )
6/10
Not bad but only if you've watched the good stuff already
14 October 2023
Detective dramas are common place now. The outline of the story is generally the same, with clues constantly being dropped to send the story in its next direction. With that in mind, every story must have its shitck that differentiates from all the others. How well this is done and whether the audience appreciates and enjoys it, that's what differentiates individual titles.

For Reacher, there are a couple of tropes. There is the blues connection, though there's no obvious connection between the blues and fictional Margrave, Ga. (especially when there was brief road trip to Memphis). There is also the "wit" of Reacher -- actually, corny quips that are a throwback to '80s Arnold Schwarzenegger (after using a neck tie to, er, defeat ... a baddie, Reacher explains that they "played hangman". Still, they are slightly amusing.

In short, there's nothing in here that hasn't been done before, and there's nothing in here that is exceptional. There are numerous titles that are exponentially better -- "Justified", "Bosch", "The Shield", "The Bridge" ... and the mother of all cop shows, "The Wire" (which, honestly is on a completely different level). But if you find yourself needing something to get you through a weekend indoors, you could certainly do far worse.

Pieces of Her (2022)
5/10
It WAS better as a movie
3 April 2022
For those saying this would have been better as a movie, I submit that it WAS movie. Check out "A History of Violence (2005" with Viggo Mortensen and Ed Harris). Similar premise, a random crime outs man with a dark past; people from his past get wind of this, and come after him. Pretty good flick ... this series, meh.
