Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror (1942)
This is NOT Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes is a character made by Arthur Conan Doyle. Doyle died in 1930, and he did not write science fiction. The character is one of the best known fictional characters in the world, and that character lived in London in the period that the stories where written. That's why Sherlock Holmes fighting Nazis is just too idiotic and a mockery of Doyles work. If you like Sherlock Holmes, you should Watch the character in some of the Sherlock Holmes series. The best are:
Sherlock Holmes: TV Series (1954–1955). Sherlock Holmes: TV Series(1964–1968). The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: TV Series (1984–1985).
This on the other hand is NOT Sherlock Holmes...
Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales (2015)
Disastrous take on the Star Wars Saga
This is by far one of the worst takes on anything i have seen in my life. It starts out as fast paced slap-stick comedy, that completely degrades the biggest Point of no returns in the movie, and continuous to mock everything that makes Star Wars beloved and epic. Pointless punchline after punchline, the filmmakers shows us how little they trust their material, and we soon see why. No old feeling from the original series is left and the characterization is the worst i have ever seen. If not for the Classic look of the characters you wouldn't be able to recognize them at all. Stay clear of this stink bomb, as it surely will ruin your love and affection for the entire Star Wars series. Shame on you...
Black Snake Moan (2006)
Another empty shell
Everyone aware of the fact that love hurts and make people act momentarily insane, will have absolutely nothing to gain from the agonizing experience of watching this disaster. The film offers nothing of value, except maybe if you like to see Christina Ricci topless in mini panties. See portrays her sensuality and sexuality in an almost laughable way, which makes it more of a turn off. The hole idea of making of love story mixed with blues fails beyond words. The acting is at most average, and the depth of the characters are all in all missing. Why waste money on a stink bomb like this when you have nothing at heart except the fact that love hurts.
Shark in Venice (2008)
A true trash Masterpiece !!!
This movie has the most diffuse script, insane plot and some really bad creature scenes. Along with this of course the usual bad acting of any low budget creature feature, BUT... What it doesn't offer in the previous it delivers in it's unique "over the top" hilarious and adrenaline driven intensity and action. To be honest i was literally blow away by a storm of the most intense editing and the vast amount of action scenes taken to new heights of hilarious proportions. It's a clone of Commando,Indiana Jones,Jaws and an Ed Wood feature at it's best. Not for one second was i bored or able to stop laughing. I highly recommend this for anyone who likes when bad go funny. A true trash Masterpiece !!!
Battlestar Galactica (2004)
What's going on with the ratings ???
I can't believe this has gotten (at this time) a 9.1 rating. I mean you give a rating based on the quality of a show and not only how much you like it i my opinion. To qualify for a high rating things like acting, script, camera-work, character development, visuals effects, originality and off course also whether you just like it or not has to be taken into consideration. But you can't disregard everything except your feelings when passing judgment on the quality. Personally i love Sci-fi and have a very large acceptance when it comes to certain flaws in this genre due to low budget TV-shows and films. I can live with some lacking special effects if the story holds up. I can live with mediocre acting if the characters hold up and i can live a lot if just the originality holds up.
Im sorry but this show simply has to many flaws for me to accept. I'll try to break it down:
Acting: 4/10 The acting ranges from mediocre to awful. It's pretentious and lacks substance.
Characters: 3/10 Two dimensional and i manage not to be moved whether someone died, feel in love or had to make any painful decisions.
Script: 2/10 No originality and so gray that i actually feel sorry for the actors. They had little to nothing to work on.
Camera-work: 4/10 Ameteuristic and the attempt to create tension and action by constantly shaking fails most of the time.
Visualeffects: 7/10 This is the best part of the show. Even though it doesn't outshine anything possible, even for a modern TV-show, it's works OK and the battle scenes and designs are above average.
Originality: 2/10 Everything is just a mix of things done millions times before in classic sci-fi such as Star Trek, V etc.
Feel of watching: 3/10 I liked the battle scenes and some of the visual design, That's about it...
If you just added these numbers it would give a score of 3,57. Since i wan't to be fair i give this piece of junk a final score of 4/10... If you want some good sci-fi shows almost everyone outshines this except on the visuals. I personally favor Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and TNG.
Serenity (2005)
How did this ever get an average of 8.0 ????
Im in shock. I read a few of the praising reviews and bought this for my friends boy at the age of 13. Watching the first episode together was actually one of my greatest disappointments this year regarding films/TV-series.
When people rate, they obviously rate from whether or not you're are a fan or not. 10 if you are and 0 if you're not...
Instead try too break down the film into different bits and see how well they work on their own and together. Now i will try to do this as fair as possible: The visuals are nice and somewhat very good for a TV-series.This almost the only positive thing i can find about this. As for the acting, it ranges from average to very amateuristic, and the characters have as well little to no dept.
This is fatal since this is the main reason to follow different episodes of a TV-series. Worst is the complete lack of relatable dilemmas of which the characters go through, combined with a very hip but often uninteresting script.
If you're able to bore a 13 year old sci-fi fanatic with what others praise as (Due to the rating, compared to other shows) one of the best sci-fi series of newer date, something is wrong. Please rate fair from the quality of the content and less from emotional attachments from being a fan, OK ? My rating is based on the partial nice visuals, where i otherwise would have given only a 3/10. Sorry
Witchfinder General (1968)
Incorrect ametueristic exploitation movie...
First off i'm a big Vincent Price fan, and bought this movie since everyone said this was one of his finest performances in his career. I must admit that Vincent Price put up some above average character work, but nothing that can save this disaster of a feature film.
This film is so full of major flaws, that it's hard to know where to start. First off, the story itself is historically incorrect, but i guess that's would be OK if the rest of the film did deliver some quality or entertainment, but this is not the case. The camera-work is some of the worst i've ever seen, and is at several points agonizing to watch. No one even bothered to check the natural lighting, so many scenes or shifting between twilight and daytime during a conversation. The worst is that some scenes are shot without any source of light, and the characters are simply black siluets in a dark landscape.
The characters are two-dimensional, and at no point interesting or believable, except for Vincent Price. Without Price this film would have gotten a rating of 1/10, which is the only time till now i have felt that such a rating would be fair.
Also, instead of uncovering the psychology of torture, it uses this as cheap effects, only seen in some of the worst exploitation films available.
All in all, the worst Vincent Price movie i've seen, and one of the worst movies i've ever seen...
