Rock of Ages (2012)
I loved it
I watched this with my wife last night and we both loved it. For reference, I was born in '76 so a lot of these songs were made when I was young but I was very familiar with almost all the songs played.
It started out really cheesy, and both of us were initially reserved about it and considered turning it off and starting something else. But we stayed on, and after a quick internal debate, I said screw it, enjoy the show for what it is.
Either the movie got a lot better as it progressed, or I just eased in to the role. We rocked the apartment out.
I think your HT setup will greatly influence your involvement with this movie. I've a high end full range 2 channel system and a large 65" TV in between so it seemed like it was the perfect setup for a movie like this.

A worthy psychological thriller
I had no idea what this movie was about upon clicking play but was immediately interested and am glad I watched it.
I found it psychologically thrilling, and at times I found myself wondering if what I was watching was really going to turn out interesting or is it just a flop? The Shining or Signs? I think it leans more towards the shining...
I wish I knew Japanese.
It made me think a bit, but nothing too complex. You are rewarded at the end with the feeling everything ties together.
I thought overall it was pretty fun to view. A few of the scenes were a bit lame, but to reveal them would spoil the movie so just leave it at: I recommend this for anyone in to psychological thrillers with a bit of horror and violence twisted in. Nothing grisly.
