The Brown Bunny (2003)
tries too hard
i get the movie...
i understand the point.
the slow movement of the film didn't bother me and the acting was great.
my basic problem with this is how completely aware i was, the entire movie, of camera positioning and direction.
an attempt at keeping this raw and organic seemed to create a painfully self aware project that had the overwhelming aroma of effort.
the story itself was fine, it was really just a lack of fluidity in the photography are that let this film down.
i was disappointed.
this film, in my opinion, just tries too hard.

The Pink Panther (2006)
a review without mentioning sellers or 'the original'.
i love a good comedy. i love the intelligence of a comedy that can seem utterly ridiculous.
therefore? i loved this film. i thought it was funny. i laughed out loud a number of times. i think martin was great and the support actors as well.
some classic physical gags and some almost marx brothers-esquire verbal moments...
not the greatest of plots but a likable and entertaining one.
my opinion is it was a good laugh. not the greatest piece of cinema this side of 2000, but it was what it was... funny, likable and a good old time!
I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (2007)
not the worst...
this has great comic performances from everyone on screen. the duo sandler and james works perfectly... it was very well filmed and id say almost everything in this movies is great... almost... the problem is i have seen this movie before... strange bedfellows - plot: 2 straight firemen trying to scam the government through pretending to be gay and having to convince the officials...
SAME MOVIE!!!
i know there are differences but only slight character differences.
other than that. it was enjoyable, i laughed. its worth watching if you want to turn your brain off and watch an average American comedy!
Severance (2006)
it was OK.
the cast did a fantastic job with what id say is a fairly average story. mildly funny in places, a pathetic ending and overall a seemingly pointless, yet strangely entertaining wander through an intelligent gore-fest.
the let down? there was far too many style inconsistencies... it started with a great set up of relaxed score with fast paced thriller visuals... but then by the end it had lost this "charm"and had a fairly normal fitting score... maybe they changed there mind 1/2 way through...
don't believe the hype about this being anywhere near as well done as Shaun of the dead... i did enjoy it though.
The Lonely Guy (1984)
lost it somewhere along the way
this started off so well. could have been great... and then seemed to be a never ending cascade of semi-attached sketches...
and the'orgasm'scene... was there a point to that... or for that matter a gag? there just seemed to be far too many moments like this. wafer thin gags with no reason for existence.
i DID like the holding hands under the toilet stall shot. that will linger.
the cast actually did verywell i think with what they had.
i like Steve martin, this just lost it somewhere along the way..
