Piranha 3D (2010)
Action packed, sexiness filled, boobs galore, horror and suspense drenched masterwork
Here it is!!! the big one. the best horror/comedy, disaster movie made since the '90s to now.
The reasons why it's the best horror/comedy, disaster movie made since the '90s to now is: 1. it's fast paced(there's not a slow or dull moment in it). 2. it has an easy to digest and understand plot that you know within 10 minutes into the movie. 3. it knows and follows the simple formula of a classic horror disaster movie perfectly. also it never deviates into some kind of movie it's not. it stays true to the kind of movie it is.
4. it doesn't have any unneeded scenes, lines of dialogue, or subplots that also don't have impact in a movie like this. 5. it has the best and most realistic make-up and special effects work that really make the carnage realistic, hard hitting, disturbing, scary, and suspenseful.
6. the directing is perfect in how it puts you right there in the action. the camera work is set up to give you the most impact and give you a sense of realism and paranoia and claustrophobia when the piranhas start biting people and tearing their bodies apart. 7. the writing is good with the characters dialogue. it has clever, creative, and unexpected and surprising dialogue. the acting is good and perfect for the kind of movie this is.
there's really nothing to say about what this movie is about. it's pretty self explanatory and obvious once the movie starts what this movie is about. it's about prehistoric killer piranhas that get created from an underwater earthquake.
the film's unabashed fun is what really sets this film apart from all the other disaster horror movies since the beginning of the '90s to now. this film is a balls to wall, high energy, completely uninhibited blast. it has all the qualities that made '70s and '80s drive-in movies so much fun. i'm talking about high octane action, cool and fun characters, a lot of female nudity, and great thrilling and suspenseful action scenes.
this film is such a glorious throwback and the best example of a film which is a no frills, '70s and '80s drive-in, b and exploitation movie tribute.
the reason why it deserves 10 out of 10 stars on the rating scale is it's as good as it could have been and everything the filmmakers set out to accomplish they accomplished.
Stripped (2013)
A fresh, creative, original, unique, new style slasher film.
This film is about a group of guys who go to Vegas to get some Escorts. After they get them they find out that the whorehouse has deadly repercussions for them.
This film is well directed, has a good pacing, has good acting, it has such a great, creative, fresh, original feel to it, and mostly gets things right as far as keeping you entertained. This is a very well made film. I was really impressed with the professional way it was directed, written, and paced. It had believable, relatable, realistic characters, scary villains, good tension, good acting, clever, realistic dialogue, and a good, fresh, inventive way of filming and presenting it.
The important thing to know about this film is the characters are well fleshed out, unique, and real feeling. You get to know the characters quite well before the killings start. The characters don't feel clichéd at all. They don't act immature for their age. They feel like real, authentic early 20 year old men and woman. It could of had a better ending and way of showing the characters as they were being killed as far as making them seem more real(their personalities weren't shown that much in the scenes where they were killed)and it could've explained more about the motives of the killers, but overall it was really impressive and better than most horror films made nowadays. It has an authentic feel because of the POV, homemade, camcorder way of showing things happening. Most of the film has a found footage, POV perspective to it which makes the things that happen seem more real and convincing. One of the most important things that makes this an above average horror film is the main characters truly felt real, varied, unique, and likable. They felt like real people who act like most men their age do. That level of honesty and authenticity is usually sorely missed in horror films made nowadays. They each had unique characteristics and ways of acting. Another thing is there is a creative twist at the end which gives you a different perspective on what happens at the end of it. This twist is very stylish, very intelligent, extremely original, and very creative, which is in line with this consistently creative film.
It's almost never boring and never is stale in how it feels. It keeps you intrigued and invested in everything that happens to the characters. It makes you care for the main characters when bad things start to happen to them. And, that's the main key to what makes a good film and the main difference between this fine film and most of the other horror films made nowadays.
New Terminal Hotel (2010)
Worthy of watching, creative horror film
Here's an original, clever little horror film. It's a really good film that captivated and intrigued me all the way through.
The thing that I appreciated the most about it is the hard hitting, raw, real, honest, and creative dialogue. I've seen a lot of films and most of them have dialogue that is so normal and clichéd and ordinary that it doesn't grab my attention. But this film is different, this film has dialogue which always captivated me, and always forced me to pay attention(in a good way) to this film. The other thing which is spectacular and outstanding about this film is the out there and, original story. I loved the raw story. Another thing which makes this an impressive film is the unusually and uncommonly dark and hard hitting atmosphere which is due to the dark story, the dark settings, and the dark set ups. Also the acting is really good from Stephen Geoffreys. And Tiffany Shepis gave a great performance. I've never seen her give a great performance before and so that was really memorable and important to me as I've always loved her as an actor. The rest of the actors do a good job as well.
This one is memorable and stands out from most other B-horror movies which have come out in the past few years. It's better than most other B-horror movies of late because of it's fresh feel and imaginative and creative edge. Most B-horror movies being made nowadays seem to be all the same because they don't have any plot elements which is original or unique and they don't know how to make scenes impact viewers, they just use the same slasher movie formula or some other supernatural horror movie formula we've already seen and seen done better. This film stands out with it's ingenuity in the face of a low budget to get ideas, images, and story content out in creative, and unique ways.
It's a stark, blunt, dark, sometimes disturbing, and raw horror film so if you can't take hard hitting, realistic and detailed violence then don't watch it. If you can then definitely watch it, you'll enjoy it.
The Patty Duke Show (1963)
splendid, awe-inspiring, ingenious, delightful show
The Patty Duke Show is about a girl who is between 15-18 years old who is shown doing normal girl things in high school as well as extraordinary, adventuresome things outside of high school. She is an American girl named Patty Lane, and she has a British cousin whose name is Cathy Lane, who looks almost exactly like her. Her cousin is supposed to be her identical cousin as a joke. She also has a brother who often innocently fights with her in normal brother-sister ways.
The two main characters, Patty Lane and Cathy Lane, the two identical cousins are both played by Patty Duke.
The first time I watched it a few days ago I wasn't going to watch it. I just went to one of my retro TV channels, Antenna TV to see what was on. I noticed it was on and then I looked away from the screen and wasn't really paying attention to it but I listened to it. As I started listening to the main Patty character talk something happened in me which sparked a curiosity. I noticed that some of the things she said, she said in really interesting ways. Then in curiosity I started watching the show. I noticed right away that the Patty Lane character was extremely interesting, uniquely original, and lively, and singularly unique. She was a revelation to me, and she was compulsively watchable, and I couldn't take my eyes off her. She was mesmerizing and I had never seen a character like her before. What made her so compulsively watchable and lovable, and appealing and intriguing to me was not the writing of the character and not what she said but how she said what she said, and her personality. Everything she said and did was fresh and new and completely unique and original to me. So, that to me is an amazing thing. It's also a magical thing to me because it's a very rare thing to watch anything at my age, 36(having grown up on TV shows)which I've never seen, heard, or experienced before in a TV show. She's so affable, lovable, appealing, and entertaining to me also.
Also, the show is ingenious in the ways in which things happen in creative, original, entertaining, and unique ways.
One thing that's important for me to say about this show is it's very entertaining and never boring. It's very rare for a show made in the '60s to totally capture my attention and my imagination while watching it because usually shows made in the '60s to me are boring because of the old way in which they were made, the old style of TV shows. But this show has never bored me, I've been engaged in and enjoyed every moment of it and I've watched about 5 episodes of it so far.
V/H/S (2012)
V/H/S: Must see horror film! Brilliant!
This is an anthology horror film. This film has so much creative energy, so much style, wit, and entertainment value. what makes this film so good is the creative ways of filming and executing the different stories. every story is different but also works with all the other stories in terms of style, feel, and type. this film is unique, i've never seen a film like it. it has such an immediate feel to it given it's documentary, hand held videotaped onto VHS tape format. also, this format gives it a really realistic effect. also, this is a mysterious film, not everything is explained and thus this gives plot elements mysterious feels. This movie has it all. it has a creature, a serial killer, and a haunted house. it has a weird, unique feel to it. all the stories are quite varied, so you're always thoroughly engrossed. It's so compulsively watchable and intriguing because of the realistic feel of it due to it's documentary, hand held camera format, and point of view perspective. it's like watching a snuff film, it's like these things that you are watching really happened and that's why this film is so compulsively watchable and alluring. it's also vouyueristic because of the first person style, recored on a camcorder, for private home movie viewing style of it. The acting is quite good for the most part and all the characters were likable to me except in the last story, which is a really important thing in a film. This movie seemed to be made just for me in that it has such a great horror film feel to it, and this old school '80s horror film feel. and the one with the kids in the woods has a scene in it in a car where a guy is video taping a woman's boobs in a car, that scene gave me a strong reminder feeling of old Friday the 13th movies. after i watched this film i thought of what scene and what Friday the 13th movie which has that scene that that scene reminded me of. it's the scene in the car in Friday the 13th the final chapter, in which Jim and Teddy are in a car looking at Teddy's computer. oh, and the outdoor, woodsy, feel of the car scene in VHS reminded me of that Friday the 13th the final chapter scene. this story turns out being a Friday the 13th style story and i know it's supposed to be an homage to the old Friday the 13th movies because of the plot elements and the name of the story which is something like tuesday the 17th. oh, and i know this film was made just for me because i love VHS tape movies, and VCRs, and this film looks just like a movie on VHS, with the poor video quality, and even the lines in the screen, and the end credits are awesome with the VHS tape, old fashioned font, and it even has the electronic humming, perfect! you see i grew up in the '80s and so i love all of this stuff. this stuff is nostaglic for me. after i watched VHS i thought about it and the more i thought about it the more impressed i was with it. it's the kind of film that stays with you after you watch it. and(this may seem like a backhanded compliment but)if you were to think about the contents of it you would think that not that much happens in it, but after you watch it, it feels like a lot happened in it. it takes you on an exciting ride, and after the end credits i wanted to get back into the world of this film, i wanted my mind to get back there. this film was so enjoyable to me that near the end i wanted it to continue for a long time. i wish this film never had to end, that's how much i enjoyed it. i give it 8 out of 10 stars because of the poor first half of the last story and some of the unexplained story elements, and the fact that it's not like as good as Raging Bull. But you know what it accomplished just about everything, if not everything it set out to accomplish, and in films that's saying a lot.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!
The "amateur night" story is my favorite because it really puts you out there on the street and in the club looking for hot women to take home and have sex with. This story is really realistic feeling, i really felt like i was there, due to the documentary and point of view filming style. this story is really entertaining, it's never dull at all, it's thrilling, intense, really sexy, and an all-around blast to watch. it's also funny, one of the guys(the player type guy)is really funny and really likable, i really wanna hang out with him. and the line, "yeah, garter belts are difficult, especially when they're passed out," so funny. oh, and "make sure she's concsious, statutory," that was really funny. i have to mention the superb acting by the main actress in this story. she is a marvel and an enigma, her eyes are truly magical, disarming, and phenomenons. she has such a mysterious air and presence to her which is very intriguing and very alluring. yeah, i'd take her home with me, mostly because of her intriguing personality. also, she is mysterious, i mean really mysterious, which is one of the most amazing things about her. This story is really realistic in how it gives you all the feelings of being in a club. it makes you feel like you feel in a club;(when you are just there to meet women and take one home to have sex with)it makes you feel like anything can happen.
