A Deadly Dose (2020)
a bunch of grifters stealing money from some poor sad parents.
It seems like your typical crime show, except it was most likely paid for by the accusers. I think if you watch the show without having any experience watching crime shows, you might think the guy is guilty what with all the overwrought ridiculous music. The thing is though, what is actually happening is you got a bunch of grifters stealing money from some poor sad parents. Perhaps the p[parents kept demanding it. This is a fun watch if only to see the ridiculousness of the case and the sleazy tactics they used. Overall it is just a low budget mean spirited TV show. It makes you sad to see the kids of the get grilled so hard. Oh, and the music is really annoying too. It has one of those purposely grating soundtracks. Why they do that so often is beyond me. I think that trend is going down now. Another thing is you get to see the grifting lawyers play there tricks from behind the scenes.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
Look, this film is like a used candy wrapper, all shiny and weightless
About 40 years ago i stood alone in a large cold room that served as the waiting area for the Bainbridge Island ferry, I stood there cold and alone outside and inside, but there was this cheerful tune and a few simple things to pay attention to on a screen, and Instant feedback like you were doing something. Playing video games was my safe place in the eighties. Anyway, this film is utterly tone-deaf. To have the cartoon characters walking along with the Beastie Boys playing in the background brings together two parts of that world that don't belong together. The actual pleasure of the game came from the fact that it came from another culture and was built to provide enjoyment. It is just one exhausted reference after another, like people use their minds to collect these tidbits just so you can feel like those big corporations are talking right to you. They saw what you saw, hell, they made the thing you dote on. Really they are just like us aren't they. No they are not, the film deals with nothing on purpose. Its emptiness is a feature, not a flaw. Every film you see these days that cost enough to get played in theaters has to make money. It has to make money so much it cannot say anything. Fans are by definition brainless idiots, and any person doing actual art does not want that. For cultures to deal with issues and have public's that know what they are voting for and why they might want to live, you have to have film about things by people whose job isn't to take your money. There are so many issues you can't talk about or make films about. The CIA is involved in many of the films that are made these days anyway. Why is that? Because we actually live in a police state where all organization and thought that devolves any power back to the people is not even considered as a topic. How could it be. It isn't even taught in schools seriously.
Anyway this isn't even its own movie, it is a continuation of that ad with those yellow things with big eyes . Truly, All the movement, the patter, it is all that corporation's shtick. It has absolutely no authentic Japanese game vibe. These people were raised thinking memorizing a thing makes you somehow a good child, so they get to relive that joy in all the time by piecing together all the references. References of a corporate product. A product designed to make weak uneducated, timid people amused, so they don't kill each other.
This music and the sound mixing is just a mess.
Look, this film is like a used candy wrapper, all shiny and weightless.
Ku bei (2021)
A Wonderful gruesome ideal 1980's splatter movie
A Wonderful gruesome ideal 1980's
splatter movie with all the modern bells and whistles
Lots of incredibly painful scenes
It all in good fun though
No creepy lingering on the pain as if you enjoyed it
no interminable captivity
That was all just all the sublimated
American-Sado Masochistic desire given space to breathe
not that this isn't extremely disgusting
plus unlike Romero weird sex is part of the threat
all the gore if just for the joy of seeing something
so disgusting, it is like you went through something
like Spielberg ended up doing in his family films
only that was gross and disturbing
this is energetic, bright, inventive, well filmed, good pace
no ridiculous "stars" to get in the way
oh, and it gets vile
I guess you got a lot to compete with these days
no fancy plot either.
Pig (2021)
Pretentious superhero chef movie set in hip Portland
-It is the film that is the thing that is really pretentious
-I mean severely pretentious
-oh God this is virulently cloying
-it is like a superhero movie for chefs
Strange
-is a fantasy
-a fantasy of a secret violent society underneath Portland(where is he getting this from? Fightclub?)
-man needs to get beat up to find someone to find his pig that got stolen(is this so he can go around with a bloody face which becomes his superhero costume}
depressing seems pointless
cage is some mysterious person with a past
He has given up everything to live in the woods
the pig is really only the way he makes his living
-he eats his truffles alone fried up in a pan
-OK it turns out he was famous
-IT's all about the truffles
-Cage(Mr. Super chef) tells off some high class chef saying his restaurant is crap so he should run a pub(Like he always wanted to do)
-a super fancy restaurant seems so much more creative than a pub.
-Why the hell would anyone listen to this idiot who isolates out in the woods(I am a hermit so I respect isolation but)
-A goddamn super high class modern food restaurant would be much more of a gamble than an English pub. The people there would care much more about food.(One of the themes is something about "you were meant to do this" crap) so he was meant to be a pub owner of all things
-why did he steal a pig he could have bought
-why would the guy not want the kid to sell buy and sell truffles
-"His world" of what high class restaurants?
-it is really all just a whose got the biggest dick film
-some people got talent some people don't
-simple stuff is better except for good wine apparently
-oh and the simple stuff is a really nice baguette(try making one of those!)
-the lines become so stupid it is hard to imagine how the actors could emote.
Arctic Void (2022)
Beautiful Arctic Twilight Zone episode
No one has really seen any of the films Darren Mann has on imdb
really amazing gorgeous open expansive cinematography
everything is so preternaturally clear
The acting was fine.
Like they filmed an episode of the Twilight zone in the arctic.
IT might be a bit thin and the ending might not totally satisfy but it is definitely worth watching.
Brief Encounter (1945)
Shallow boring people lose themselves in lust
-film is too dark -female lead is amazingly normal looking not weirdly attractive like most actresses -the female lead is a rich person who does nothing but feels sorry for herself -music seem to overpower the meager imagery occasionally -male lead also pretty plain looking -ancillary characters are grating not cute -female lead is portrayed as having petty thoughts and desires
- does not watch her own children
-being in love is making fun of other people -the man ,of course, has a reason for living. He has a calling.
-the female is able to give her interest or at least feign it well enough to have a reason for being.
-music is sappy and too loud -the female lead has nothing to recommend herself. She is boring, has pedestrian opinions and both nothing to do and no real interests.
-the train photography is amazing its symbolic importance laughable -the affair is pathetic -this is what is wrong with mass culture. Focusing on lust and elevating it to the only reason to live.
-focusing on fantasies and trying to hide the real joy which is transgressing the rules. Neither character matters to the other. It is the transgression that powers all her dreams of doing whatever she might imagine her self doing(travelling etc.).
-the dream is of isolating from the world with just one person to deal with. Sharing the dream of selfishness.
-1 hour and ten minutes in and i really want it to end. I do not care what happens to either of these boring selfish people.
-the real progress the characters make is in the ease and cleverness of their lies -finally she is mistaken for a prostitute -the female lead barely does anything throughout the film, she has things done for her -really, are these two people going to continue to have sex, when they are also presumably doing it with their spouse, or not? That is the burning question.
-Of course this is the perfect film to take anyone you want to be with but only for bit.
-the nod to Tolstoy in the end really reminds you of just how shallow this film is and how much deeper life is.
Silence (2016)
a hallmark card of torture porn
Torture works!! Or so one would be led to believe after watching this two hour and forty one minute film. I mainly spent the film bursting out in laughter at all the ridiculous unreal actions it seems the entire cast is determined to go through with.
The Terror: A Sparrow in a Swallow's Nest (2019)
Pretty Vacant
Nice cinematography, handsome actors, ok music mixed with one dimensional villains and an overly limited color palette. Cliched horror elements backed with by the numbers screechy sound effects. Pretentious and slow this is a very expensive looking but ultimately frustrating exercise in style. If the writers wrote actual characters rather than stereotypes it might have been interesting. It all just seems unpleasant, and it looks like it will continue to be depressing and annoying instead of fascinating and thought provoking like the last season. This review is based only on the first episode i might actually watch a few more.
Murphy's Law: Episode #4.1 (2006)
Ugly cinematography, atrocious sound, ridiculous plot.
It wasn't a very good show to begin with but this season is just an ugly annoying mess. No more corny quips, it is just really painful to watch. The voices, the sound the cinematography, the plot all seemed engineered to annoy the audiencejust enough that they won't stop watch. Like watching a car wreck.
Scot Squad: Episode #5.1 (2018)
This a a great season of this show
I thought perhaps the show was losing steam but this season is really good
Room 237 (2012)
Interesting but kinda sad
This is a really interesting film about some people who made up some, pretty much, completely ridiculous theories about the shining. It's highly watchable. None of the readings presented are profound or very interesting and it doesn't require any thought to discount them as theories are presented with the "evidence" shown on screen. The film left me feeling kinda sad for these people because it seemed like their education or upbringing left them unable to have profound thoughts. But then they aren't hurting anyone and they seem to have some enthusiasm. I think i would have rather watched a film where they actually got some uber-educated film theorist talk about the film but then it would have been a different movie
