The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)
Hungry Games: The Awkward Karaoke Night of Hunger Lames
Ah, 'The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,' a rollercoaster that's more like a kiddie ride at a local fair. Buckle up, folks - we're in for a lukewarm journey.
Coriolanus Snow's transformation is like watching a caterpillar attempt ballet - ambitious but fundamentally awkward. Tom Blyth and Viola Davis give stellar performances, though it feels a bit like winning an Oscar for a school play. And that brief love story? It's the spice equivalent of saltine crackers - a bit bland.
Now, the characters. Picture a group of friends you wouldn't invite to your birthday party. That's them. More background and growth? Apparently, that's too much to ask. The pacing is so off; I thought I accidentally switched to 'Hunger Games: The Slow Motion Edition.' Trim it? More like perform a cinematic exorcism.
Rachel Zegler's acting is stiffer than a frozen baguette, and the singing scenes? It's like they handed out microphones at a karaoke night for tone-deaf cats. The connection to the original Hunger Games series is shakier than my Wi-Fi during a storm.
'The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes' has its moments, like finding a semi-interesting receipt in your wallet - mildly intriguing, but hardly a jackpot. If they iron out these wrinkles, maybe the next chapters will be less like a kiddie ride and more like a rollercoaster with actual loops. Fingers crossed for an upgrade, but hey, miracles happen, right?
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Overhyped, I'm giving lower rating to do justice :)
The animations are fantastic. Something between 3D, comics and animated film. Other... Where to start? 2.5 hours of a festival of colors and chaos. The film seems to have been made by someone with serious ADHD while on LSD. There is rarely a pause between sentences to process what has been heard. Combined with the cluttered animations, I had the impression that I was watching the movie at 1.5x speed. It can be seen that the film is totally adapted to new generations. Parents are friends instead of being parents, they use slang, everything is colorful, fast and "adapted" to short attention spans. There is no tension, the dialogues just flow without much expressiveness or meaning. There is more drama than action. Once again, the animations and style are absolutely phenomenal. The level of dialogues, scripts and everything else is not at the level of animations. The movie had to be at least half an hour shorter with a better story, less woke crap and far more suspense. This gives the impression that it is a Coca Cola advertisement. Due to excessive animations and hasty speech, the film is difficult to follow for long periods of time. A good idea, but the execution (except for the animations) is average at best.
Amelia (2009)
Boring, no thrill, no buildup, no link between the scenes
The first impression after watching the film was confusion. Is Amelia flying or just riding as a passenger across the Atlantic? Why does she decide everything? Especially since she's not the pilot on the flight. Why did everyone celebrate her when she came back from the flight? How is she known to everyone??? The film was made for those who already know everything about Amelia. As much as I know about the subject, I always go into the film as if I know nothing. And that's how you should approach shooting a film. This is more like for die-hard fans who already know everything about the one in question. I stopped watching (paused) when Gere kissed Swank out of the blue. Where did that come from? No announcements, introductions, no chemistry, no emotional development or connection... Disaster. Things just happen. No link, no logic. Suddenly a marriage proposal, out of nowhere. A good cast is not a guarantee of a film's success. The scenario is clearly criminal or hastily concocted. Then they are in bed. Without any hint of liking. Things just happen. Every scene in a movie has to have a meaning, and in this movie, not a single scene makes sense or drives the plot. When she decided to fly alone, there was no drama, concern or emotional involvement of her husband in the film. Everything is nonsense, without tension, it just happens. Gere's acting when he was told that Amelia had landed in Ireland was pathetic. Everything is lukewarm. It's never shown what kind of flying skills Amelia had, what kind of problems she faced as a female pilot - Swank just smiles like a moron. Was Earhart really like that? I do not know. At one point, Amelia is driven home by a flight instructor. Where did the husband disappear on the way? There is no connection anywhere. The flights across the Pacific, from Hawaii to California, are featured with 15 seconds of footage, and should have been the highlight of the film. It was a total failure not to include it. Was it difficult for you to shoot those scenes, directors? Then don't agree to make a movie. The movie is boring, and Amelia certainly wasn't boring when she was current. The only moment of the husband's concern is towards the end of the film when he tells Amelia before the flight - "come back to me" and "see you". That's when you realize that she's definitely not coming back. Poor attempt by the director. It's stupid how the co-pilots and navigators in the movie don't have a say in the decisions. No matter how idiotic a decision Amelia makes, they accept because their life in the movie means nothing. Was it really like that in reality? I do not think so.
Crash (2004)
A Powerful Exploration of Prejudice and Understanding
"Crash" is a powerful and thought-provoking film that explores the complexities of race, prejudice, and human relationships in modern-day Los Angeles. The talented cast delivers standout performances, particularly Sandra Bullock and Matt Dillon, who bring nuance and depth to their characters. The film's interwoven stories of various characters effectively highlight the ways in which our actions and beliefs impact those around us, often in unexpected ways. The direction is strong and effective, with a focus on realism and a keen eye for capturing the gritty, urban setting of Los Angeles. The cinematography is well done, but with a few scenes lacking the same level of impact as others. The soundtrack is solid and serves the film well, but doesn't stand out as particularly memorable. The production design is well done, accurately depicting the diverse neighborhoods and cultures of Los Angeles, but isn't particularly flashy or innovative.
American Psycho (2000)
Christian Bale's Chilling Performance
"American Psycho" is a 2000 film directed by Mary Harron and based on the novel of the same name by Bret Easton Ellis. Starring Christian Bale in the lead role as Patrick Bateman, a successful Wall Street banker with a sinister double life, the film is a darkly satirical and disturbingly accurate portrayal of the excess and emptiness of the yuppie culture of the late 80s.
The film's sharp social commentary on consumerism and materialism is one of its strongest aspects, with its characters' shallow obsession with appearances and material possessions serving as a metaphor for the moral decay of society. Bale's performance as Bateman is nothing short of mesmerizing, as he perfectly embodies the character's charming, yet disturbingly sadistic personality.
In terms of cinematography, the film is stylish and visually stunning, with its sleek and modern aesthetic perfectly capturing the excess and emptiness of its characters' lives. The film's soundtrack also deserves special mention, with its use of popular 80s tracks adding an additional layer of commentary on the superficiality of the era.
While the film's social commentary and stylish tone are major selling points, it must be noted that its graphic violence and explicit content may not be for everyone. The film's depiction of murder and mutilation is integral to the plot and commentary, but it may be too intense for some viewers. The film's unflinching and provocative nature is a testament to its impact and effectiveness, but it may also turn some audiences away.
The Batman (2022)
Ok political thriller
This is not Batman. This is a political thriller. The creators of the film, you missed the mark. You missed the point of Batman. It's also too long a film. Why make an action movie boredom? The first half of the film was promising, but the second part was so stretched that I started to fall asleep. The main character is constantly offended, full of hatred and immature for one hero. We haven't seen gadgets, high technology or what makes Batman a Batman, just some "correctness" and apprehension.
Disclaimer: during filming no criminals were harmed by the Batman's hand :)
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Nonsense
What is the point of this film? Dialogues don't make sense. Unnecessary vulgarities, stupid "action", disgusting, weird, sick ... This is not a movie but a look inside a disturbed mind. It's neither tense nor fun nor does it make sense. People who give 10 to this garbage have gone crazy. In the first 15 minutes I had the impression - what the f is this? What am I looking at? Disgusting garbage, it turned out. God knows how this is in the top 250. Really pointless movie. Music has no purpose. Nothing makes sense. Extremely bad film and a waste of time and resources.
The King's Man (2021)
70% drama, very little action/adventure/comedy
What the hell did I just watch? What a boring "movie". As people already said, a wasted potential. The only good thing was Rasputin but then again... Why the gay jokes? Why the vomitting and licking? Why does the character need to be gross? Just why? In a movie like this. The "movie" is garbage. It misses the target. 3/10 at best.
War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)
Monkey drama, humans more animals than actual animals
Boring. More drama than action. There's not that much drama even in Clint Eastwood movies. Everything is as slow as watching a movie in 0.5x. If there was a monkey drama genre, this movie would be it. There is little action, and even when there is, it is very boring. 90% of the film is drama. The "evil" military commander is not evil at all. He is as evil as a mild chamomile. I am fascinated by the people who give 10 to this work. I watched the movie all day how boring it is. The film is not tense, overstretched and does not justify the high rating. So I give it a lower rating than I planned to help balance it. Special effects were absolutely brilliant though.
No Time to Die (2021)
Bond without martinis and technology = John Rambo
This has nothing to do with Bond. First, the film is too long. Unnecessary. This Bond is no longer a professional but a nervous old man. Where's the martini? Where is the humor? Where is the class? Where are the high tech gadgets? Where is the tension after all? Visually appealing but missed. The main villain is not evil enough. For God's sake, Malek should finally have some energy while acting. He always acts on the same trick. The film acts as if it was shot in passing. It seems to me that Kingsman's style is more similar to old Bond movies than this one. Finish the story or reset it properly.
The New Mutants (2020)
Please, give us a break
What's going on with all the making out? Unnecessarily and does not contribute to the film in any way. Just why? Good idea, poor realization. The film is neither tense nor entertaining. The special effects are good but other than Anya Taylor-Joy, the acting is unconvincing. It seems to me like they filmed everything in one afternoon in a hurry. If you have an hour and a half to spend, take a look. Otherwise, a waste of time.
12 Monkeys (1995)
Weird and random
The film is very confusing, half the stuff is unrelated and random, and it's not even interesting. There are also cringe parts - especially when doctors sing to Cole. I don't understand how this movie has an 8 rating. It reminds me of "The 6th day". Cool idea, but realization ... very strange. I give 4.
Captain Fantastic (2016)
Beautiful
This is a ten. Pure gold. An amazing movie, interesting and full of emotions. The actors did a phenomenal job. This movie really makes you think about life.
The Secrets We Keep (2020)
Very meh unfortunately
The acting was tepid. From a thriller like this, I would expect much stronger emotions, much stronger fear, much stronger excitement ... The theme is good, but the realization is not so good. The beginning was good, and then everything was diluted. The main actress does not have enough hatred nor fear, everything is done as if a war crime is something completely ordinary. I am glad that there was no happy ending because further coexistence would be impossible. Too bad the movie wasn't tense enough. For example, I would call Rachel's child Karl and I would only discover this towards the end of the film to be a better twist. But this way the film turned out to be below average. Too bad.
Unhinged (2020)
Very solid, time will tell
This movie was good. Usually I'm the one who says don't believe good ratings, but this time I'm the other side. :) Don't believe bad ratings. In the thriller, I look for the tension that this film indeed had. I also appreciate the brevity of the film. The premise that makes road rage happen is totally stupid, but everything else is fine. Great sound and great Crow. Some comments have said that the film was unrealistic - were the Avengers realistic? Or Spiderman? :) Anyway, a pretty good movie.
Ava (2020)
"AVAFUL" - Half the movie ok, half went to hell.
- Okay, you're our best operative. You drink? No biggie. You talk to the victims? Whoa whoa whoa. We have to draw a line somewhere. Kill her.
Posljednji Srbin u Hrvatskoj (2019)
Just stop making movies, Croatia
After 20 minutes there is a scene where 2 male doctors start making out. Wtf? Why do I have to watch gay propaganda??? Every single Croatian movie is the same - drama, war, Serbs. No matter if it is a comedy, romance or drama. Creativity = zero. This garbage was an attempt but as usual, Croatian movies are missing the good quality script. Just give up, already. You are embarrasing our country.
The Invisible Man (2020)
Good idea, bad realization
After only 25 minutes, it became boring. Cringe conversations, the pointless use of music in scenes. The film is at least half an hour too long. After 30 minutes I started praying for something to start happening. In vain. The 7.5 rating is overblown and unjustified, I would say even artificially raised. Although the acting of the main actress should be praised. The film is too stretched, if it had lasted half an hour shorter, it would have been better. The idea was good, the realization could have been much better. Basically, it's by no means 7.5. 4 maximum.
12 Angry Men (1957)
Absolutely deserved to be on the movies top list
I watch this in 2020. and i am fascinated by how tense the movie is. Considering the time when it was shot and no budget, this is a great movie. Interesting and tense to the very end. That's how movies are made. All the actors did their part perfectly.
Yip Man 4 (2019)
Racism, stereotype and cliche fest
I am neither American nor Chinese so I can judge objectively. This was a very bad attempt at a movie. So much racism, stereotypes and clichés that it's not to be believed. The script was written by a child. And how does this score a 7? The acting is pathetic, the fight scenes are fantastic, the plot is hilarious, so decide for yourself if it's worth watching this Eastern propaganda. I gave it a rating of 3, and I needed to give it a 1 to lower this too high and unrealistic rating. Shame on the movie.
Anna (2019)
Do you even go to school to learn how to make a movie?
This was total chaos. The plot seemed to be a working of a 10 year old child. Jumping in time is totally confusing, the film is superficial, and the only bright spot is the performance of Cillian Murphy. It was so boring that I wanted to stop the movie 40 minutes in. The movie lacks depth, and we don't care about the characters. Bypass if you can. There are plenty of better movies to spend 2 hours on.
Apocalypse Now (1979)
What a mess, don't say I didn't understand it cause I did
I am always as real as it gets and I'm first to say "the king is naked".
The first hour of the movie is a good setup. You are anxious to see the lunatic general and what's so special about him. The second hour of the movie is soooo booorrring. They travel along the river for sooo loong. Here and there someone dies but it's still endless. That dinner part is also very long and kills the flow if the movie had it at all in the first place. I fell asleep couple of times. And then in the third hour you expect a final confrontation and suspense but instead you are given a totally anticlimactic ending. I again fell asleep couple of times during general's looooong and quiet speeches.
So in short, the setup was good but there was no tension throughout the movie and it was killed even more by long pointless chaotic scenes. People on drugs rate this as a 10. It's not.
Creed II (2018)
I rooted for Drago to kill Creed and put an end to this franchise
I mean, seriously. The main character in this one is so annoying and stubborn that you don't care for him. That is a big fail because you should root for the main character. The idea of a movie was excellent but the presetation failed misereably. Drago Jr. idea had so much more potential than this boring, depressing and dragged out cash grab. Too much drama, too little action. Also, since it's so predictable, there was too little thrill or suspense. This is nowhere near 7, don't trust the ratings. I suspect they are fake, bought or whatever.
Instant Family (2018)
Just wow.......... I rarely give a 10...
Now THIS is how you make a movie. Brilliant. It has it all - drama, emotion, laughter... I'm a grown up guy and I almost cried. That scene where the mom is brushing Lizzy's hair almost got me. All praise to the director and the actors. This was fantastic. Great job.
Fist Fight (2017)
Solid idea ruined... Why? Read on.
The idea of 2 teachers fighting is OK but it is ruined with over the top swearing. Creators of this movie just DO NOT understand the proper use of swearing in a comedy. Throw it all the time all over the place and it loses it's power. Like the scene when the daughter raps. It's just retarded. It's mindless.
The plus is Ice Cube's performance. Jilian Bell is also awesome as usual and she always cracks me up. Charlie Day gets to another level of annoying proving that although he can be a great side kick, he is just not good for a main character role.
People giving 9's probably see 1 movie in 5 years and then are impressed by it. I wouldn't call this movie even average. I think it's not so good and between 3 and 4 I gave 3 because I wouldn't want them to make such a mindless swearing fest again. Take hints, movie creators.
