Engaging

I saw this film at DeadCenter film festival in Oklahoma City. Connell has done a great job assembling a cast of interesting characters. This film is very funny but also shows the harder side of life for these background actors. The film is very engaging and keeps your attention from start to finish. The crew followed these actors for 8 months and then edited for over a year, and it shows. They have done a good job in showing growth in the film, and the editing of the story is excellent, with no voice-over and very little text required to pad the story. The actors are telling the story, and that's what makes it interesting. Recommended!

This realistic take on the "secret agent kid" movie succeeds on many levels. 8/10

This movie was somewhat of a pleasant suprise for me. I knew Frank Peretti was an excellent writer but I haven't read Hangman's Curse, and I was afraid that his superb writing might be lost in transition to the screen as LaHaye and Jenkins' was with Left Behind. This movie was not in the same boat. The screenwriters have done an excellent job, and the director has crafted a movie that is suspenseful and atmospheric, but also gives you some good jump scares. The movie succeeds in being a family movie and a Christian movie without being cheesy or preachy. This movie is safe for the family, and actually a much higher quality film than we get with similar Hollywood films such as Agent Cody Banks and Spy Kids, not to mention much more realistic. Even if you just like a suspense/mystery flick then this is for you. And as I said, it's not a preachy movie, so if you are worried it will be too "Christian", it's not. Check it out, and hopefully it will do well and the studios will greenlight more Peretti projects (This Present Darkness would be an AMAZING film).

Shoot me now.

This is a horrible film. What a shame that it's a remake of one of my absolute favorites. The dialogue is corny and forced, the acting is terrible with the only exception being Robbins, who is decent. The story is uninteresting and has too many stupid subplots. The supposed villians are not in the least bit menacing or intimidating, and the ending is contrived, cliched, and anti-climatic. Not worth your money or your time. I kept hoping it would just hurry and end. What happened to the director of The Silence of the Lambs? 4/10. Just watch the original: Charade. It's marathons better.
