Videodrome (1983)
In the words of SYL: All Hail The New Flesh
James Woods as Max Renn acts as a business owner of a TV channel. He pursues a snuff program to put on his show and encounters obstacles along the way, leading to what makes us as responders feel we are on a very bad acid trip.OK, so maybe I don't have to spell out the plot for you. GOOD BECAUSE I CAN'T. This film weaves its way in and out of different visual and emotional landscapes throughout. I'm not talking about the "underground" or the "crime scene", I'm talking about surrealism that is harder to get you're head around than a new Salvador Dali painting.David Cronenberg's "Videodrome" is one of the most powerful films I have seen and really draws the responder into the film as well. As you go through each scene you wonder, is what happening now real or not? In the sense of the world put inside the film anyway. Highly recommended and whilst not overly violent, you will find yourself very disturbed.
"Long Live The New Flesh"
La montaña sagrada (1973)
Holy Mountain... purely an experience made from awesome
Jodorowsky's Holy Mountain is excellent. And when I say EXCELLENT I MEAN EXCELLENT. I can accept that this film may not be for everyone. But whilst this may be biased, it is moronic for those who CAN withhold the imagery to simply write it off before making the credits. Whilst there is debate on significance of symbolism and the like within the film, I feel that people who participate in such thoughts may be missing the moral of the story. The fact that Jodorowsky went to such an extent only furthers the message delivered at the end. (Which is what the whole film is built upon) I'd say its defintley worth some replay value, as they may have been some elements I missed on the first or second encounter with it. Moving on to watch other works of Jodorowsky, I'd say that this is easily the best. Plain epic.
ALSO: I'm not sure about the validity of this, but originally Lennon was set to star in it?
Meatball Machine (2005)
Necroborgs... I'd pay to see even more of the franchise!
For fans of Troma or the Cyberpunk genre mixed with a little blood shed then this film for you! There is a good amount of blood shed within the confines of this film, also the effects can be impressionable and awesome. The plot is ridiculous and refreshing, not being chained down to what we as audiences are expectant of from films these days.
Also notable are the little aliens, who I found cute. All in all, it's a good film for fans of the genre. Also recommended are films such as Tetsuo:The Iron Man and Versus for that weird Japanese film approach, filled with wonderful obscurity and bloodshed. Of course, seeing this film you should already have knowledge of the two.
