Honest Man: The Life of R. Budd Dwyer (2010)
Emotional, enlightening, and revealing biography
I had the great opportunity to come across "Honest Man: the Life of R. Budd Dwyer", a very well done biographical documentary and a tribute to a man who dedicated his life to serve his state, but who fell victim of political revenge and a disastrous justice system.
Although it's very hard to think about Budd Dwyer without thinking of his suicide, this documentary does an incredible job of not exploiting "the scene", guiding the audience to focus on what's really important to understand, which is Budd's life and his story.
The composition of the film was brilliant, narrating the story through a combination of powerful interviews with family members, notable archive materials, historic documents, and a very fine touch of artistic elements.
This is a great film that is both emotional and informative, and one not to miss.
El andalón (2010)
Angels do exist after all...
I had the chance to see "El Andalón" at the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival last summer and I must say it is one of the most uplifting and inspiring documentaries I have ever seen. Set in the beautiful (and many times ignored) state of Chiapas, Mexico, this documentary honors the life of Don Sergio Castro, a true hero and an international example of a wonderful human being. Despite the many challenges he faces, Don Sergio is devoted to improving the lives of people in his community guided by his faith and a strong heart. The filmmakers did a fantastic job on the story and composition as "El Andalón" is very well structured and artistic, sharing beautiful shots of the colorful scenery in Chiapas and powerful interviews. A must-see film for everyone.
Love in Bulk (2009)
You'll never shop the same way again!
Love in Bulk is solid proof that you can watch an excellent funny film with classic humor appropriate for everyone without sacrificing the language or the integrity of the film. I loved this short-film comedy because it is not only hilarious, but the story is creatively told from a very ordinary everyday activity, which is shopping. The performance of the main characters, two overweight shoppers who experience a love/shopping relationship, is absolutely phenomenal. And the flow of the film is very well done taking the viewer through funny and spontaneous moments at the Bulk N' Buy superstore. Its universal humor reminded me at points of Peter Sellers in "The Party". Funny from beginning to end, and truly artistic with great angle compositions, Love in Bulk is an extraordinary film not to miss.
