Instant Classic
27 January 2017
I originally gave this movie a 7 out of 10 before going back and changing it to a 9/10. I loved it the moment I finished it. Before I even finished it really. Days later, when it was still on my mind from time to time, I realized just how great of a movie this truly is. Not only will this be one of my favorite horror movies this year, but I think this should be on every list of classics. The mystery is great. The ending is great. I honestly don't have a single bad thing to say about this movie other than it could've kept going and still had my rapt attention. The acting is on point. The setting is so realistic yet super creepy. The story though. It draws you in within the very beginning and you will not be able to look away. It does not have a vintage feel. At least not to myself, yet it did remind me of older horror movies. Movies that rely on the story and the acting, not all the big Hollywood CGI and over the top theatrics.

watch it

The acting really makes this movie. Much more so than the story itself. Granted the actors do have quite a good story to work with. Featuring 3 younger girls. 2 of them I barely remember. I don't know their actual names, or their character names and honestly don't care to. They were just there, and were so far out-shined by the other actors. The movie at times was very tense. It's pretty straight forward. No mystery to try to figure out. Not a lot of gore. Would not call this a horror movie. I would place it in the thriller genre. Not sure what genre it is actually being categorized as. M. Night really did good with this one. Even if you typically don't care for his movies I would still give this one a go. The last time I seen one of his films in theatres was The Village, so I did go in with a lot of hesitancy, but he proved that like anyone else, sometimes he does bad work, and sometimes he really gets it right. I daresay this will probably make my top 10 of the year.

Bound to kill brain cells

This movie. It was all over the place. Really. I suppose I could see how some people might have liked it. Those people must just have a drastically different idea of what makes a movie good. The only thing that kept me watching was that I was in the mood for a movie and after a while of fruitless searching for something new and exciting I settled for this. Then continued to watch for lack of something better. The acting was nothing special. The story was starting off good. Building up momentum and tension, drawing you in...the BAM it just get's to be too much. They take it over the top. You have no connection to the characters. The twist is very lacking. At times it becomes downright laughable.

At the end of the day if you want a movie along these lines, a movie that is well made and draws you in from beginning to end, watch Seaoning House.

Seen it all before

This movie wanted to be edge of your seat, and nerve wracking. I just wasn't feeling it. Through the whole thing you can't help but know that it's all been done before. You've seen it a million times. Within the first few scene's you will be able to predict the entire movie. It doesn't necessarily make it bad, as the movie is for sure watchable, it just takes away some of the appeal for me. Acting was good, and believable. The atmosphere was just blah. A little patchy fog here and there and a night sky just isn't enough to make it creepy, or scary. They very obviously tried to incorporate the soundtrack more than most modern movies do, which I could appreciate, but I also thought they took that in the wrong direction. Never at any point was I rooting for the main actress. I simply didn't care about her. Watch if you're bored. Or don't. You wont be missing anything.

This movie really put me in the mind of Sinister. Depending upon if you like Sinister this could be a good or bad thing. Sinister was more satisfying for me. This movie seemed to be lacking something. I cannot pinpoint what it was, but through the entire movie I felt like i was a hairs width away from losing concentration on it. It could have been more. The acting was very much watchable. The problem lay with the story itself, and possibly just the way the script was wrote. I cant say that I noticed a lot of cheesy lines or anything like that, it was just more like the film lacked heart. It is worth a sit through. It isn't torturous to watch it, it will only leave you wanting for a bit more than it was able to deliver.

More than what you expect
6 April 2016
I went into this not wanting to like it, or at least not as much as I did. Im ashamed to say that I judged this movie by it's cover and expected much less than what it actually delivered. All in all it is a good movie. It has its jump scares, it to-be-expected moments. It also brings something to the table that almost gives you this feel of isolation. Its good at putting you in the characters position. If you can find yourself relating to her in any way, this movie has parts that are genuinely freaky. I don't mind admitting I wouldn't mind a prequel. That could be fun. Watch. Hopefully get creeped out, and enjoy it. Worth watching

not for everyone
24 April 2015
This movie was a slow burn, with the feel of an 80's throwback. It will not however be for everyone. By no means is it action packed, filled with cgi or littered with sex scenes. It does pay homage to old school nitty gritty horror that did not reply on all of the aforementioned. The vibe is dark and somewhat quirky, but in a good way. I've read other reviews comparing it to movies such as suspiria, and I can't stand behind that opinion. If you grew up on 80's style horror and have a love for the strange, then this one might just be for you. It does have a slow start, but if you stick with it, surely it will prove to be a rewarding experience. I thoroughly enjoyed pretty much every minute of it. The ending seemed a bit lackluster in comparison to the rest of the movie, but that can be forgiven as I can't quite picture any other ending personally. I immediately found myself rooting for "Sarah." I wanted to see her acquire her goals, but somewhere in the mix of it all I found myself disliking her. Very nice character progression with her. The actors did what I thought was a very striking performance. All in all, I'd definitely say give this movie a go
