The beauty lies in it's simplicity

Who would have thought that a book reading could move so much. This TV special showcases hightlights from the book Between the world and me by using todays finest black voices. The use of personal footage, historical footage and animation have turned the whole into a piece of art. A piece of art that cannot be missed. The story and language used by Ta-nehisi Coates is personal, poetic and literature at it's finest. I recommend this to anyone who loves books and is interested in the civil rights/BLM-movement.

Wolfwalkers!

I would like to start this review by noting that I will try anything to become a Wolfwalker.... ANYTHING!

This animated movie was enchanting from beginning to end. The story, the writing, the music and especially the visuals gave me goosebumps multiple times throughout. This movie has multiple layers and is a fit for all ages. I don't want to spoil too much, but please give this beautiful film a go even if it's not your genre.

The Last Black Man in San Francisco (2019)

Breathtaking!

The major theme in this film was so refreshing I just had to watch it. Gentrifcation is happening all over the globe and pulling people away from the place they know and love. Besides this major theme the movie maker/creator and star Jimmy Fails has done an exeptional job showing us the beauty of the city San Francisco. The movie sheds a light on the hardships of the inner city and it's brutal and ungrateful stance towards it's original residents. This he was able to do with great integrity and an eye for detail. The film paints a tough and frustrating picture of current life in the big city, but also shows the strength (and complexity) of friendship, family and community. A powerful combination that wil leave you speechless.....

P.S The score is MAGNIFICENT!

I Am Not Your Negro (2016)

A must see during the current uprising

I do not live in the US but I am fascinated by it. I live in the Netherlands where a dutch musician recommended it through social media. Reading James Baldwin's books was already on my to do list and this movie has enticed me even more to dive further in the head of this mastermind. His analysis of the American life is layered and complex but ultimatly comes down to one thing: Are you willing to look at who you really are and are you willing to change to make your society a better place. This movie embodies a universal timeless truth through the mind and creativity of a skillfull genius. A gift to anyone who is open to learn.
