Geostorm (2017)
Good Disaster Porn, Good Popcorn Flick
Saw it in 3D, and thoroughly enjoyed the visual feast. Although the story follows the usual disaster movie plot, there's enough of a new angle on the genre that made it fun (particularly the ISS, and the weather control system in space). I personally wouldn't have minded seeing a little more destruction towards the end, but all in all decent.
PS: Notice how all the bad reviews give it 1 to 3 stars. Do you really think those are legitimate reviews? They're not. And once again the critics are wrong.
Whiplash (2014)
plot-less, and what's there is just dumb
the plot-less 'plot' (Spoilers I guess): A psychotic music instructor screams at his student calling him a FAGGOT throwing things at him to play faster and faster (not better mind you) eventually makes the kid so nervous he gets in an accident, then the kid plays a corny mid-tempo jazz number the end.
There ya go. That's the film. Unreal that this is getting such attention, even nominated for an Academy Award. Just goes to show how visceral elements such as cinematography and over-the-top acting can trick people into thinking something more is going on than actually is.
Final Note: Practice makes the master, having an escaped lunatic screaming in your ear while practicing drums will only prolong your attempt to get into 'the zone'.
The Brothers Solomon (2007)
Hilarious If you're into Weird Oddball Movies.
I mistakenly thought it was dumb at first, but then soon realized the complete stupidity was entirely intentional, then it became hilarious and after I saw it was from the same wacky creators of the Tim & Eric Awesome show I realized this was really just great. Free your mind before viewing, thats right. the humor is borderline retarded and juvenile, plus insane but I loved it. I guess it's not for everyone but I genuinely laughed at several scenes. At least the humor was well thought out, over the top, & intention unlike some other movies that are out at the time that were way too forced & contrived with less of a coherent or compelling plot. Brothers Solomon is one to check out if you like weird things straight outta left field like me.
Finding Nemo (2003)
This movie is great
anybody who doesnt like this movie is a pussy. This movie was more than tolerable for an animation. The concept was solid and the characters were likeable and superbly animated. The voice actors were cast perfectly and gave great performances. The entertainment value is a five out of five. The action sequences were so brilliantly done that it doesnt lose value with each time you view it. The transitions where creatively done and kept the storyline well in pace. I look forward to seeing the next Pixar animated film THE INCREDIBLES although i wonder if it will be much different since its written and directed by Brad Bird. Pixar is where it's at in the world of new high end animation..and like i said ..if you don't like this movie .. then you're just not a true fan of cg animation.
Dark Star (1974)
Great Dark Humor
The bad reviews of this film are from people who thought this was supposed to be a serious sci-fi film...haha! This is a COMEDY SATIRE people! The humor is very dark and tongue in cheek and really good if you're actually into science fiction films. John Carpenter did an excellent job on this and the DVD claims that one of the crew members was tripping on acid during the film...hmmm which one is it? I don't know...great flick for sci-fi nerds.
Sleepaway Camp (1983)
Great American Slasher with an ending you'll never forget
This is 80's American Cheese at it's greatest! The cast does a great job and the script is actually really good. If you're a fan of cheesy slasher flicks this is one you should certainly check out...and absolutely DO NOT MISS THE ENDING!!!! One of the creepiest endings I've ever seen in a movie which is sure to give anyone the chills. A truly wicked low budget horror flick.
Poor White Trash (2000)
I love this movie!
This movie is for fans of Russ Meyer films! I was cracking up at this silly, wacky low-budget masterpiece. The cinematography was great and purposefully bad! The acting was hilarious. The story was chaotic and a pretty good representation of weird things that happen in a small American town. Jamie Pressly is truly funny and superb in this. If you don't 'get' this movie, that is really too bad for you. 10 out of 10!
Showgirls (1995)
forget the critics, this is great
I gave this movie a 10 out of 10, to offset the unfortunate ratings from the copycat critics who are following the critical conspiracy against this hilarious movie. There is nothing wrong with this movie people! When this movie came out all the major critics condemned it simply for the fact that teen TV star Elizabeth Berkeley was setting a poor example for young women by exposing herself (all of herself!) in her first feature role. Although her acting may not be the greatest in the classical sense of acting, it is purposefully campy and funny (remember she just finished the TV series 'Saved by the Bell'). It's really too bad she was blacklisted after doing this movie. Paul Verhoeven does a good job directing and is finally able to unleash the camp side that he hinted at in all of his previous films (especially Robocop). Personally I enjoyed this highly entertaining film which is as good as the movie 'Bring it On', which is about cheerleading.
Combat Shock (1984)
for ultra-low budget fans only
It makes me laugh to think of people who are used to watching normal Hollywood style movies renting this movie with popcorn at hand, ready to see a movie about a Vietnam vet! If you're not used to seeing gritty, no budget 16mm depraved amateur student film sickness disguised as a movie then you shouldn't watch it. If you're a fan of low budget horror films with a very sick ending then you should definitely watch it. Personally I like this rare and sick film...maybe I need to go see my doctor...
La montaña sagrada (1973)
holy acid trip!
This film is by the guy who said 'I am to film what LSD is to the mind'. That is exactly right in this movie. It makes sense on a higher level of consciousness which most won't catch by seeing the barrage of symbolic images and scenes linked together..however it is a masterpiece of weird cinema. If you're not into pretentious surreal art like Salvador Dali then this isn't for you. He later did Santa Sangre which is an amazing film with a more coherent story.
La planète sauvage (1973)
Great Bizarre Animated Art of Roland Topor
This is one of the best cult animated films ever. The story (based on the novel The Savage Planet by Stefan Wul) is wonderful, the animation and directing is excellent, the music is hauntingly strange! I remember watching this on TV as a kid and I was mezmerized by the story of these people being controlled by these giant aliens and having a strange feeling like this has happened in the past before..and I couldn't stop watching. Once you get the story and are drawn in by the central character (Terr), it will suck you in and you can't wait to see what happens to them. The story contains mythological qualities which tie into social struggles in various civilizations and even the human condition in our universe on planet earth. If you would like to see a bizarre metaphysical head trip of a movie, then watch this!
