G-Men from Hell (2000)
Absolutely terrible
G-Men from Hell looks cheap and ugly because it is. But worse than that, it is simply an uninteresting mess of zany characters with no dimensions to make the viewer care about anything. The famous Coppola's untalented nephew Christopher uses a lot of Dutch angles because I guess he had no other ideas to make shots look interesting. Unfortunately this plan doesn't much help matters, but at least you can theoretically build a drinking game around it.
The film apparently attempts at being a comedy, but lacks any wit or charm. A lot of crazy things happen, but none of it is compelling. Decent actors such as Robert Goulet are thoroughly wasted here.
Simply put, this is one of the worst films I have ever seen with no redeeming qualities to consider. Avoid.
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
Movies are meaningless
Superheroes fight robots controlled by a super A.I. Some of the characters have minimal story arcs. Trademark Joss Whedon quips are plentiful. Surprises are not.
A film made to appeal to a mass audience that enjoys action and super heroes, it follows a formula that has been proved successful. The execution is fine, but characters lack humanity that made Guardians of the Galaxy enjoyable by comparison despite its atrocious plot.
The obvious culprit is having too many heroes. A large number of characters results in a lack of focus. We are only given glimpses of character development. The truth is that this concept would be best enjoyed as a a series, and not as a film. That's probably what the comic books are for.
Read them, or watch the Firefly series instead. Those who absolutely want to see a big dumb super hero action film should watch Guardians of the Galaxy first, but Avengers: Age of Ultron fits that description too.
Australia (2008)
A terrible, overly long, unfocused adventure comedy romantic drama social commentary war movie
This is my first review. This film caused such a strong reaction in me that I simply have to get this off my chest. I'm going to get the obvious out of the way early: I absolutely hated this film. If I made a top 10 worst movies I've ever seen list, this would be somewhere around there.
I went into this expecting at least a half-decent adventure film made with a big budget. What I got was... I honestly do not even know.
Near the beginning it's slapstick comedy, then it turns into adventure and starts killing off badly established characters to get some drama value in. This fails.
For some reason the narration is done through a ten-year-old speaking broken English that you get somewhat used to, but there is still no reason to have this kid do the narration.
All the characters were really bad. That's the only way I can put it. You don't really feel like you got to know anyone properly although the film is over 2 hours and 30 minutes long.
It's impossible to get into the story or the characters, because the script just kept going all over the place. Watching the second half is like watching an entirely different, but an equally bad film. At some points the romance between the lead characters seems to be the focus, but the next moment the film appears to be trying to do commentary on social issues, racism and war. It's not really so much a story as a string of several different things that happen. It's extremely difficult to get invested in anything, because there is no focus.
The actors do their job, somewhat. I can't really fault them for this being unwatchable, but a sane person should have seen that the script was horrible.
I would honestly not recommend this film to anyone. It is not one of those "so bad, it's good"-films. No, this is just a concentrated effort of producing crap with a huge budget. It's amazing to think really that you can make something so awful with such resources. Redeeming qualities? There are a couple of nice shots of nature, obviously the budget allowed them to use helicopters to shoot some Australian scenery. But if you want to see that, do yourself a favour and watch a nature documentary that's set in Australia.
This movie is just a waste of time. It does a dozen different things, but all of them are awfully executed.
