The 51st State (2001)
I had a good laugh.
Okay, it's not going to win any awards, but it's a decent movie. I rather enjoyed the humour and I loved Robert Carlyle's character. The accents and conversations were hilarious, if you can translate.
It's a jumbled mess of story lines and twists, but the cinematography is excellent and certain setups are hilarious.
Old School (2003)
silly, but funny parts
{{ minor spoilers }}
This movie is funny, but it's not a den of hilarity. Something funny will happen, but then there's 10 minutes of the love story to watch. Then another funny incident, and more sappy love story.
They advertised great, goofy laughs, but they didn't advertise this as a comedic love story - so that was disappointing.
Will is hilarious as usual, especially when he dances!
Watch it on satellite or rent the movie with friends. If you spend money to see this in the theatre or rent it by yourself, you will feel ripped off.
Liam (2000)
A beautiful film about an ugly past.
Some slight spoilers...read at your own risk! ----------------------------
My mother called this movie depressing, but I call it the truth. Follow the daily routines of a poor, 5-year-old boy and you won't see any glamour or come away with a fuzzy feeling.
What you will get is a true representation of English history. Your eyes are widened by the stark realities that play out before you. But you will feel better for knowing the struggles that people faced then, and feel thankful for what you have now.
If you have some time to sit and contemplate life, this is a perfect companion.
Cinemania (2002)
If you enjoy people-watching, you'll love this.
Get a sneak peek into the lives of some "different" people. You probably know that people who are fanatic about subjects tend to be interesting anyway, but this movie takes you further.
If you enjoy watching people and making up stories for them, you have to see this movie! The real lives of these strange people are more interesting than anything you could think up!
Men in Black (1997)
loved it even though it's sci-fi fromage
For me, every not-so-perfect sci-fi movie has to have a little "cheese". With MIB there is no shortage of the dairy delight, but it keeps me laughing.
[SLIGHT SPOILER]
There are lots of aliens in the movie. Some are played by real actors, other are animated/generated...but all will make you laugh. It always amazes me how they make real characters interact with those who were added at a later time.
Even though you are laughing and watching some great action, there's even a part of the movie that tugs on your heart strings. I enjoyed the story and it was a nice ending.
I haven't seen Part II so I don't know how they explain the return of certain characters. I'll have to see!
Mutiny on the Bounty (1935)
my favourite movie of all time
I can't remember when I first saw this movie, but I have seen it many, many times. I had a tape-from-TV version that was filled with commercials, so my parents bought me the original approx. 10 years ago.
The acting is amazing, especially by the captain.
This movie is in black and white, but I have seen the colorized version. There is also a Marlon Brando version, but I didn't like it. I have yet to see "The Bounty" with Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins.
The movie was so amazing that it inspired me to learn more about Tahiti and British Navy history. I even visited Whitby where Captain Cook lived for some time (Cook sailed with 21-year-old Bligh on the "Resolution").
Pecker (1998)
you will cry because you just wasted valuable living time
Whoever gave this movie rave reviews needs to see more movies.
A loser takes his camera and photographs his mental family. The movie is filled with idiots and includes live "teabagging". That should sum it all up for you.
Do not waste your time. You may want to watch the entire movie in the hopes that it gets better as it goes on - it doesn't!
Mars Attacks! (1996)
I only rate it a 7, but it's one of my faves!
This cheesy sci-fi is one of my favourite movies of all time. I really enjoyed how a lot of the actors in this film took on roles that we haven't seen them do before.
Some of the characters seem weak, but I think they were cast that way on purpose. The big names in this movie are numerous. The costumes are great!
And, if Tom Jones is in it, how can it be wrong?
Tank Girl (1995)
powerful chick movie
There's plenty of macho movies to boost male egos...now it's our turn!
This isn't a sappy chick movie that makes you feel warm and gushy. This is a powerful, in-you-face, media sensation that makes you laugh and say, "Chicks RULE!"
I loved how the movie's soundtrack was very prominent (great songs!) and how they mixed other media into the film.
I didn't read any of the Tank Girl comics, so I don't know if this is "on track" with it's origins, but I still loved it.
