A sweet, beautiful film

Goodbye, Petrushka presents an inspiring tale of hopefulness and perseverance. The film is anchored by a delightful and moving performance from lead actor Lizzie Kehoe. But the entire cast is at the top of their game. Admittedly, it was hard to see the protagonist abused by some characters. But all of the interactions felt genuine. And that's very special!

Delightful and fascinating!

Chief Zabu, shot in 1986, is hugely relevant in the age of the Trump Presidency. Filmmakers Neil Cohen and Zack Norman (aka Howard Zuker) have spoken extensively about how Trump inspired both the story and the film's completion thirty years after production. Norman and the late Allen Garfield costar as Sammy Brooks and Ben Sydney, real estate developers who dream of political power in the newly sovereign Polynesian island nation of Tiburaku.

Norman and Garfield are at the top of their game as Sammy and Ben. This is particularly so during a segment in which they converse during a drive. The rapid fire dialogue is pitch perfect, hilarious and possibly the film's finest moment. Another standout in a roundly exceptional cast is the late Manu Tupou, who portrays the titular character, leader of Tiburaku. Tupou brings much dignity and warmth to Chief Henri Zabu and, like the rest of the cast, completely owns their role.

Witty, fun and thought-provoking, this film is a total winner! Cohen and Norman are to be commended both for their work on the production and on the completion of the film in 2016. The story of how the film came together is fascinating. Dive in to the world of Chief Zabu - you'll be glad you did!
