Don't Sleep (2017)
Horrid, but had so much potential
This is truly one of those movies that for me could have been freaking awesome. It went in directions that I often WISH horror movies would go it, but sadly the writing and plot jumps were just too much.
I remember telling our daughter when she was younger, as she would relay a story about something happening, she would leave out an obvious trigger of some sort (usually one that didn't put her in the best light in the story) and then she would jump to the next part of the story, and I would stop her and tell her there is no way that she did this, and then the other person did that. There was obviously something that happened in between. Well, this movie was made completely and totally without that logic. So many times there is a line like "As a kid I felt there were two sides, this other me that was capable of such evil" and the other person goes "Oh, that's OK" Like it's just totally normal. Truly this movie could have been so much, but instead it was just what it was, a swing and a miss.
Beneath the Dark (2010)
A pleasant surprise
This was a very well done story of redemption and seeing the effects that the choices we have made can have on our lives, as well as others. I won't go into much detail, even though I've clicked the spoiler option, but this movie was well paced, and well acted, as well as being thoughtful and entertaining. This was one of those Netflix suggestions that was actually very accurate for my taste in movies.
If you like this style of suspense, don't miss this one. While it does take a while to get going, this gives us time to get to see each of the troubled individuals in the plot, and to understand what they are dealing with, and as the movie progresses we see why this is so important. In a way, this movie reminded me of the Butterfly Effect, just because of the theme it's selling.
Hunger (2009)
Well done psychological thriller
This was a very well done story, that had much of what is missing from much of todays genre. This movie is about humans, the good and the bad, the dark and the light, and the power of will.
The acting is very well done for a budget movie, honestly It's better than in many other films which I'm sure cost much more to get to the screen. The development of the characters kept me interested, and made me care about what happened to them, which is more than I can say for most other movies in the same genre. This was very similar to the first Saw, but with the person who is pulling all the strings having a more believable (in my opinion) reason for being as demented as they end up being.
There isn't much true gore, but enough is left to the imagination to make you wince a few times throughout.
All in all, if you like psychological exploration type films, this is one not to be missed.
Near Dark (1987)
Jesus, did you people even watch the same movie?
This movie actually dropped my IQ. I truly don't see how anyone could enjoy this steaming pile of cow dung. I saw frailty with bill paxton and was amazed at that movie, so naturally I thought this one would be good as well. OOOOPS. Bad move Pardner (oops slipped into the movie for a moment).
Ok, First, the vampires survived for years, and yet these idiots don't EVER think to tape up the windows before sunrise? EVER? Call me crazy, but I find it hard to be scared by a group of morons who could be foiled by simply hiding the black paint, newspaper, aluminum foil, and duct tape 2 min before sunrise. Ohhhh, don't kill me mr vampire, oh wait, what do I have here? Yep, your can o spray paint, and I'm taking your blankie too, bye bye moron.
Ok, lets let that one go, whats with the casting of this moronic child vampire who could not act his way out of a paper bag? Line after line of READING from this idiot. I felt bad for Paxton and Lance Henriksen being placed in a movie that sucked more than an entire department store full of hoovers. And Severn was just a little too stupid to be considered scary or mean. The killer from seven, scary, the little girl from the Ring, Scary, the spirit that takes over Regan's body in the Excorcist, scary, Severen the vampire who would fail his GED once each day and twice on sunday- Not scary.
I guess I just expected better work after seeing frailty. As to those who have placed this as the best vampire movie of all time, I can only truly hope and pray that you have a very very obtuse sense of humor and indeed are making a satirical joke.
My advice, don't go anywhere near this DVD if you value a coherent story with even mildly intelectual characters.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
This movie was amazing
This movie sucked me in and kept me glued to the screen for the entire 3 hours, I saw it at 10:15 pm last night, left the theatre at 1:35 and was begging for more. This movie had everything, to those of you whining about it not being true to the book, go read the shining and then see the movie. They are both VERY good works, but they aren't even close as to the major plot. This was a great movie in tempo, in humor, and in action, the effects were amazing. The CGI was great where it was used, and the movie simply left you gasping for air.
This movie is one of the best I have ever seen, and certianly the best movie of it's type ever.
