Logan (2017)
Brutally Matured!
So the farewell installment of the iconic superhero wolverine was undoubtedly one of the best x-men movies and the best in wolverine franchise. This movie is so different to all the previous x-men movies made with no mind-blowing CGI and extensive action sequences but with a strong characterization and brilliant performances. The chemistry between all the three main and supporting casts were very much satisfying and minimal action sequences were riveting. If you are obsessed with WOLVERINE, this gem is not to be missed!
P.S. This movie is definitely not for kids as it had realistic depictions of violence and gore.
Bairavaa (2017)
Expectation Fulfilled
#NO SPOILERS ****** Right from the movie announcement, cast, first look, teaser, trailer and songs the expectation for this flick was moderate, which was obvious and I can that the say the movie exactly matched it, except for the fact that it had a good content and few unexpected mass scenes. Like #Vedalam this movie also had all the qualities that it should have been released around 2005 to 2010 and not in this era. Yes an Agmark mass commercial Masala with good scenes then and there. Yet another One man army movie where Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay carried the whole movie right from the beginning. Movie had a strong plot but a weak execution in the second half. Director Bharathan is very good in paper work as he comes up with good / different stories ( first ATM, now Bairavaa ) and he had penned the dialogues for films like Ghilli and Veeram. When it comes to executing the same on screen, he fails. But there is an improvement compared to ATM ( it has to be, right :P ?). The first 20 or 30 minutes was very dull and kinda boring, even though many claim that the cricket fight was good, I don't feel that way.The actual story started then and it was in a good pace followed by a perfect interval block (Semma Mass!!!!) with Varlam Varlam Va " Bairavaa" BGM!! . Second half continued at a considerable pace by reminding us movies like Sivakasi (film), Veeram etc loses it by the uninspiring cat and mouse game between the hero and villain when nearing towards the Pre climax sequences. Then ends up in a normal climax. The reason for losing the pace was the placement of the scenes in the second half like a good scene followed by a bad scene , then again a good scene followed by a very bad scene. This movie would have been much better if some portions were trimmed. Sathish's one liner comedy helped here and there whereas Thambi Ramaiah was a great Mokkai. Keerthi Suresh as usual didn't have any scope. Another notable negative point is Mr. Santhosh Narayanan for the songs and BGM. 65 to 70% of the movie had "Varlam Varlam Va " Bairavaa" BGM and I doubt whether the remaining part had any RR. Particularly there was fight scene between Vijay and Daniel Balaji with a strong sentimental BGM (WTH ?? ) . This reminds me of the BGM in Kabali fight scene where Thalaivar rescues Radhika Apte in a BGM of absolute silence!! Also the placements of the songs in second half was bad. Papa Song visuals was good with a village temple background and good dance number. To conclude, if you are a neutral and who doesn't have any expectation and doesn't dive deep into anything. This movie would entertain you. For others except the fans, might or might not work out. On a box office point of view , there are certain movies which became hits even earned negative/Mixed reviews at the time of its release with various deciding factors. Examples ( Maan Karate, Maari, Vedalam , Theri etc) the first two due to the Pre release buzz it created and low budgets, the latter ones mainly for the few mass scenes which had been received well mainly in B and C centers even though the content wasn't good enough. So this movie has a very high chance of joining that list! #StrictlyMyview!!!
Thoongaavanam (2015)
A Classy Engaging, Tight and compact thriller!!!
Another movie for Kamal and only for Kamal with no songs. A movie which is in par with Hollywood standards that focuses only on the story content rather than any commercial elements.
Casting: A perfect casting and everyone have done their part so well.
Story: As everyone knows that this movie is a remake of the French movie "Nuit Blanche" aka "Sleepless Night", the story and screenplay are almost same which I heard from others as I didn't watch the original version. A normal story for a classy thriller film with a difference being that it travels in a single location.
Cinematography: Pretty decent and doesn't spoil the mood of the scenes.
Music: Gibran's rerecording is good and doesn't irritate or make you feel amateurish. The song which is placed at the end credits is good too.
Lady Lead: Good role for Trisha after so many years and she has done it well except for the stunt sequences. She looks good too in her costume and way better than she is looking in the textiles showroom advertisements. It's time for her to take such roles or a matured mother character like jyothika did in her last few films.
Stunts: I should definitely mention about the stunts in the movie as this movie has one of the best stunts that have ever filmed in Tamil cinema. They are so realistic which are similar to that of the stunts in the Hollywood's Bourne series (Not exactly though). I wish all Tamil movies follow these kinda stunts henceforth even in mass commercial masala movies.
Screenplay & Direction: Didn't know whether the screenplay had been altered to Tamil audience or not, but it is so engaging throughout the movie and there will not be any scene where u will feel to move out your eyes from the screen. Also screenplay has been done by Kamal Hassan himself. Yet another movie with the name of the director is being replaced with someone else's name ( Rajesh M Selva ) instead of Kamal Hassan himself I guess as the style shows (Not Sure though).
Hero: ULAGANAYAGAN Kamal Hassan, what else do you wanna know, you can feel his presence in each and every frame. He looks ten years younger with his rugged look as well as classy in his blazer throughout the movie. His ruggedness suited him so well in the stunts sequences 'Semma Thoranai'. Unlike Papanasam, there is no much scope for delivering his acting skills in this movie but still there is a scene where he talks with his kidnapped son in phone and you can see a glimpse of his trademark reactions for a second. It's absolutely his screen presence which makes this movie at this level. If you are a fan of thriller movies, this movie is one good choice.
I doubt whether the movie will have a good box office run at the B and C centers as the movie will satisfy only the audiences of A centers.
