Life of Brian (1979)
Thanks for reaching my innermost funny bone
Jesus/Brian would approve. I learned a lot about Jesus from this movie. If you think He would be offended, get the stick out. Teaching about His life in comedy is the perfect irony.
Relative Strangers (2006)
sit back and laugh
to this day, when my kids see a cheese ball at the store or on a cooking show, wherever, they say " I made it with my own 2 feet" and They do some Danny Devito bits too. It is a simply hilarious movie. With a refreshing "humble thyself" message that can hit home when you have a challenging family, which everyone does in some form or fashion. Kathy Bates and Danny D are perfect. Scoot! Blackfoot! Rugs:) ..cut ya a deal. Watch it with your kids. Believe me they will appreciate your sanity compared with having parents like these, both sets. Cringing awkwardness in places. The scene at Livingston's snobby parents house is classic. Yentl! Mother Juggs and Speed! The rating on this must be because some uptight a-holes rated it or not enough people have seen it. See It!
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (2008)
heartbreaking
I have never felt such a void as I felt after watching this movie. It hurt my heart. The little Bruno is so sweet and caring. He is played to a tee by Asa Butterfield and you love him so much. And his friend Shmuel. Bless their hearts. And Rupert Friend is a believable and cruel Nazi soldier, acting out of fear. As is the heartless dad. Vera Farmiga is so beautiful and blissfully ignorant for the first 2/3 of the movie, but when she knows, you see it is plaguing her. She and Bruno and Shmuel, are the heart but Pavel, is the soul. He is wonderfully portrayed by David Hayman. When he bandages Bruno's knee and the doctor conversation begins, it is pure gold. The guilt Bruno feels for no reason will break your heart. My son began researching concentration camps and learning about history because it was so bizarre to him. He can't believe this kind of thing happened.
Sunshine Cleaning (2008)
laughed and cried and laughed and cried some more
I thought this was an excellent film. I saw a negative message board comments and it was by a guy and even though I think mature men would like it, it is more of a girl's film. But this girl thinks it was the best movie I have seen in years. I have always liked Amy Adams, especially in "Mrs. Pettigrew lives for a day", but I think this movie belongs to Emily Blunt who totally nailed her role. The boy was great too and the last scene on the playground was hilarious. Winston and the Dad were also super. Adams did a great job but Blunt was the one who made me laugh and cry. Any girl who works hard, like I do, will appreciate the reality of this film. This movie is what real life looks like. It isn't a glossy, feel good movie. It is truth. I gave it 10 stars and it deserves them all. SEE IT!!
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008)
trash
No wonder the kids of this world are so screwed up. You portray this supposed fun life that looks pretty empty to me. And isn't sex thrown in kids faces enough? The orgasm scene was totally unneeded, and made the girl out to look cheap. And the gay guys carrying bras around.?! Do they do this? This crap I wish I could have printed on soft paper so I could wipe then flush it. Pure dee trash.
This girl was pretty good in 40 year old virgin and Michael Cera has been good in everything I have seen him in..superbad, juno...and he wasn't bad in this movie it was the material that was bad.
I know that there has to better movies out there waiting to be made. This can't be all there is to choose from. And I heard all these raves about how funny the drunk girl was in here, i say it was a pathetic ploy to encourage underage drinking. Somebody help us!!
The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)
worst movie ever
This was a waste of time and a waste of good actors. I can't begin to say how stupid this was. If I could've picked 0 stars I would have. Was this supposed to be a movie to scare you into treating the earth better? Or was it just to meet some studio quota? Did the actors owe the studio a movie in their contract so they said "Okay I will be in this horrid movie, just write my check?" Please don't waste your time on this drivel. Come on Keanu, you rocked in the Matrix, and what a waste of John Cleese. I wanted to scroll the credits to see if Will Smith was a producer and backed it so that his son could get his resume juiced up. Pitiful.
New in Town (2009)
Harry Connick Jr is sooo HOT!!
I agree that this was a very predictable movie, but that aside it was enjoyable. What a great smile on Harry. MMM he is sexy. I sound like a 14 yr old but he does not get the credit he deserves as an actor.
I know they didn't want to make Renee look bad in a hair net but everyone has to wear a hairnet in food plants and the guys have to wear one over their beards too. That would have made it more authentic. Harry shouldn't have shaved his beard off either. He looks better with it.
I liked that they brought Jesus into the mix and that the lady who played Blanche showed her goodness by not being vengeful after learning of the betrayal. She did a very good job in this role.
And don't we wish all little girls were as sweet as the daughter in this movie. I hate seeing these movies where these young girls are portrayed as mean little wenches. Even though that is the way many are in this world, perhaps a role like this one will show them what respectful young ladies they could take after.
