As a long time Supernatural fan, I was skeptical that I could enjoy a story about John and Mary, especially after the hatchet job the mothership did on Mary in the last three seasons of the show. But I found myself really enjoying this take on a younger, less jaded John, and the Mary hinted at in the early days of SPN. The supporting cast were instantly likeable, and as The Core Four (and Ada) they drew me into the story right away. There are enough SPN references and easter eggs to satisfy my SPN loving heart, while also creating a new and exciting story that I think I could enjoy even if I'd never seen the OG show. There is a LOT going on in this first episode, but that's true of every pilot worth its salt. Previews and reviews promise more even pacing and character studies, and more monsters-of-the-week (MOTW), something I really missed in the later years of SPN. Music was on-point, and the costuming and set decoration is right-on (70s style!). Really looking forward to watching this story play out.
